Right folks, I need some advice on this one please. It's not my usual type of car.....because I am poor A friend has this 1998 Mercedes which he's had for years and always had serviced by a local independent. Some rust on the rear arches and the bottom of one of the doors, and a bit on the tailgate under the handle, otherwise it looks pretty tidy. 96k MOT - August 2013 Tax - March 2013 Video of engine running It's not been driven since last June due to his health and he wants to sell it. I charged the battery, left it 48 hours, then refitted, the engine fired first time. Any ideas what I ought to ask for it?

Have a look on flea bay completed listings, it will give you an idea of what they actually fetch and not what people think they are worth. At a guess £800. No one wants a 2.4 petrol at the end of the day.

I've trawled through ebay and local Autotrader prices - but I respect the expertise of folk on here so really hoping someone who knows these cars better than I do can offer a suggestion.

I see it as £600 ish I'm afraid.
The fact its a 2.4 petrol shouldn't matter, as 80% of these were petrol, and the 2.4 returns a very similar MPG to the 2.0.
Unfortunately, W202 models simply are not desirable at present. The fact its an estate would certainly help sell it though.

But since it's not a marque I am familiar with I didn't want to say anything to him without checking first. That's helpful advice.
