I have decided to document the work I have done / am doing / have planned on my BMW 1502 It is one of the last 2002 shape cars fitted with a 1600 engine. I have owned it for about 2 years now and although I like to look after it and restore it, I have bought it to drive! Unfortunately the engine gave in but this now gives me the chance to get it rebuilt and upgraded which is in progress... Details to follow...

Nice, I really do like these. There's one in the same colour near me. I love that it's being used and abused like a good car should too! Cool stuff.

It was originally Inca Orange and I would like to bring it back to its former colour with a black 2 tone split across the crease line. The plans are to keep it fairly traditional so it can compete in classic rally events. The picture above shows the one event entered to date, The North York Classic where we entered the 'run' competition and won. 100% win record so far! ;D I will do what subtle modifications I can as I cant help myself. The rules for classic rallying basically say you cant modify with anything that wasn't from that era. As mentioned the engine has suffered some damage. The last time a used it a threw it into a corner on the handbrake and the a flame came out of the exhaust...and did not go out! I have a video of this somewhere I need to find... So engine rebuild in in progress. It is currently with some experts who mainly deal in race engines for these cars. For those in the know this is a BMW M10 engine which the blocks are known for being bullet proof. This engine was used in F1 and there are many race cars today that use them up to crazy bhp levels. My plan is to get this peaky high lift cam fitted and run it on the period twin 40 webbers. I already have a stainless steel exhaust system and I just cant wait for the noise when it is going. It should be approx 120 bhp which is more than double the original power. A picture from the day I got it:

M10 are great. Are you going to use a 2 litre bottom end? I have an earlier car but when the engine blew I dropped in a 1.8 I was gifted from a low mileage e21. It's on twin 40 Dellortos though and is plenty quick enough for daily duties. Have you joined the UK 02 forum? There's always lots of advice available there. If you're able to run 15'' alloys, the e30 BBS make a good cheap upgrade and fit under standard arches perfectly. www.02forum.co.uk/This is mine.

That is a nice example MIB BMW! I saw a white one on the M1 the other week (don't think it was yours though). They look even better in real life!
Yes I have seen the '02 forum. Some guys really know their stuff on there.
I have a set of 13" ATS classics that will be going on. I'm taking them to be refurbished at Pristine wheels next week. - Pics will follow!
Where abouts are you stemo??

Neat project, your plans for it sounds nice and ats classics will fit the style perfectly, especially with that nice grey colour. That dash is screaming out for a wooden italian steering wheel though ;D If anybody's interested I found a better picture of the graffiti in that first picture, it's awesome. www.flickr.com/photos/iephoto/8082230317/in/photostream/lightbox/

A teaser of the new wheels! I think they look great, its just going to be tough keeping them clean! I bought them in very poor condition and then gave them to Pristine wheels along with lots of money and they have been transformed! Today they are fitting my 'used' Vredestein tyres which will certainly improve form the 400 year old very cracked and hard tyres that I was using. I will collect on Friday... Need to get some decent wheel nuts from somewhere now!

Nice car - i sometime wish i'd never gone for turbo arches on mine but i think the ATS Classics suit the car either way - i've got them on my 2002.

Great wheel choice and a great car! It certainly looks like a good base to play with.
I look forward to the plans and updates.

The '02 project is still progressing although a little slow due to work / a banger rally distraction and the fact that the engine builder is taking his time as this is a small project for him compared to the race engines he is also building. Trying to locate some oversize pistons for the rebuild and struggling a bit Things are now progressing a little better. Some photo updates: New wheels on with shorter front springs as it was riding high previously. Chin spoiler fitted ...and some surface rust removal from lower engine bay
