Well the story started when a mate of mine at www.exminsterclassics.co.uk/ got wind of a pair of MK2 Vauxhall Cavaliers sat on a farm in North Devon. He was originally interested himself but when I mentioned that a few of my mates were heavy in the MK2 Cav scene he decided to pass the details on to them (Thanks Howie ).
Well my mate Andy contacted the farmer and made arrangements to view the cars. One was known to be an SRI 130 in unknown condition stored in a barn for 2 years. The other was an unknown model in an unknown condition stored in a container for 6 years. This could of gone anywhere!!
Well Andy and Simon, (Also a MK2 Cav fan), went to view the cars a week earlier. Happy with what they found they made a deal with the farmer and arranged to collect the cars last Friday.
They wanted me to come along with my camera to document the finds and the collection... I was happy to oblige ;D.
Well on arrival the first Cav came into view in a proper barn... complete with Cows lol.......
Simon with the SRI 130 in rare saloon flavour.....
Seems complete and in pretty good nick....
Its the real deal...
Retro Graphics...
Pushed out the barn and ready for loading onto the transporter... Looks good.....
The other unknown Cav turned out to be another SRI 130, also a saloon and in rare light metallic blue!!! Winner!! ;D
However.... its not quite as tidy!!!
Dodgy homemade graphics
Needs a service!!
Tints!! LOL
The paint has blistered after sweating in the non ventilated container...
Retro content inside the retro content!!
Dealer stickers... Also matching the number plates....
Had later stering wheel fitted along with aftermarket stereo etc
Seems it was in the hands of an early 90s youngun!!
Tyres were flat so swapped them for some good ones so the car can be rolled... however they were a bit rusted on...
Its only flat at the bottom!! LOL
I love this pic ;D
This came in very handy
Recovery in progress
Hmmm will it fit???
Hmmm a little tight...
Very tight!!
If this had a tow bar it would not of fitted!!
Its free!!! ;D
White Cav all loaded....
Now to load up the blue one.....
Double Deck Cavs...
And we couldnt of got them from a better town LOL ;D
Heading home with a full load...
Back at the unit
Friends reunited
Simons Cav Cabro already at the unit awaiting Andys magic painters touch
4 MK2s is a rare sight
Getting ready to unload...
We had to tow the blue one off due to seized brakes!!
And the the white one off....
Andy and Simon looking proud ;D
Quite a collection....... and Andy has more elsewhere ;D
White Cav is pretty untouched....
Getting ready to clean up the blue one......
Looking much better....
Stripping out the inside...
Its a bit cold being on the edge of Dartmoor!!!
After a bit of a hoover it looks better...
Seats needed a blast off.....
White one awaiting a wash later but looking tidy and complete!
The cars are in good hands with Andy. He runs his own bodyshop and is a dab hand at top quality bodywork. The white one is going to get a full resto as Andy has done to his other SRI hatch here...
The light blue one is either going to be sold on as a complete project or broken for spare parts.
Thanks for reading ;D
