Due to Rich kindly donating a complete top box & roll cab to the unit, we now have a couple of tool boxes/top boxes spare to sell.
The first is a very reluctant sale - I bought this from John (Donttellhimpike) about four years ago and this alone gives it a fair bit of sentimental attachment. It's also been Area 52 mainstay for tool storage until very recently. It's *part* of Area 52 but, alas, the space and need to raise funds are greater at the moment.
It's a great old top box. Sturdy and dependable if a bit beaten up. The drawers all open and close fine but could possibly do with a little bit of oil to make them move a bit smoother. It's not an issue really, like I say, they work fine as is.
It's covered in various stickers including a load of original 80's street machine stickers. The drawers have been lined with carpet tiles to stop the tools from rattling around.
If you're looking for a snap-on box in perfect condition then this is not for you. If you're looking for a nice sturdy place for your tools with some character and some proper Retro Rides history, then look no further.
You may have noticed that the top-box is on a frame with castors? That's because we mounted it on on old zimmer frame to make it more portable. It's brilliant because the drawers are all at the perfect height and the whole things wheels around nice and easily so you can have your tools wherever you're working.
The castors/wheels are spongey and keep movement over uneven ground very smooth. Ideal if taking it out doors onto the drive or even over grass. I was going to weld a shelf onto the bottom of the frame to house a battery, a charger and some jump leads so that the unit could also double up as a mobile battery charger/jump pack.
The top box is bolted into a custom frame which is welded onto the zimmer frame. By undoing two bolts, you can simply lift the top box out if you don't want it fitted to the zimmer frame (for transporting etc...) but we found the zimmer frame so handy, I think we've only seperated the two when taking the tool box to the Gathering.
I forgot to take measurements (which I will do tomorrow) but it's a good size top box, it's got to be at least 2ft (48") wide. It housed pretty much all our tools, sockets, hammers, saws etc...it's taken us pretty much three years to outgrow it!
Collection only from Bristol or Pony Express, I really don't want to sell this.
£55 for a slice of Retro Rides & Area 52 history. It even made an appearance in the Retro Cars Magazine Gathering review 2010 where it appeared with the rear end of a bike attached to the back of it. Don't ask!
The other tool box/top box is a smaller one, more of a hobby box that is perfect for general use or even storing in the back of a car possibly? I'll get some proper measurements of it tomorrow.
This is near mint and looks like it's hardly been used at all. All drawers and top trays have foam liners in them and the drawers all slide in and out nice and smoothly. All in all a superb little box for the money.
£25 collected from Bristol.
There is a chance I can get either of these tool boxes to the Essex Swap Meet this Sunday if someone wants either of them quickly? After that it'll be collection only or pony express.
