So this was advertised on here a while back Then someone bought it and used it as an engine donor for his datsun Then it was going to be broken up for spares, however I took pity on it and bought it to fix up ;D The planSo my wife is due to be induced (early) on the 11th, the car is coming here at lunchtime, subject to all the bits turning up on time i'm gonna try to have this MOT'd before the baby comes

So it needs: Engine gearbox Radiator engine and gearbox mounts throttle pedal and cable and everything that connects all of the above together exhaust front pipe and back box Oh and some welding And some welding needs rewelding When i did the deal i was half expecting to end up doing a engine swap on it but as if my magic i found exactly what i needed So took a trip around to north london and it came with pretty much the whole of the list of other parts. Leaving my list something like this Radiator top hose throttle pedal and cable exhaust back box. The throttle pedal and cable led to much google searching and found a guy with one in essex so thas sorted and its in the post. Got a NOS backbox that i just need to collect and the top hose is a simple right angle which gates supply as a universal hose which local motor factors have in stock!

So a chance trip to the spares garage reminded me i had something i could make use of here The engine that came with the wagon. It has already been checked over and had timing belt done by previous owner so i'm extremely confident its all good inside, just need to use some bits to make it complete and convert it to manual. Also acquired a pair of used rear arches chopped off a stripped shell to hopefully make the bodywork go a bit quicker.

Good man! That generation of Silvia's are such a dying breed - it's great you're turning it around and giving it a second chance. My fiancée would be flapping if I made plans that close to baby date though, I've gotta say. Hero points ftw!

Nice project Is it an illusion or is the flywheel dished? I have 2 flywheels, both are flat except for the small area that the bolts go in

Nice project Is it an illusion or is the flywheel dished? [/IMG]
Its not a flywheel, its a flex plate, the auto engine I have has had a lot of work put into it by the previous owner so I trust it more than the one that got pulled out of a garage covered in dust. You will see the flywheel (which looks the same as yours) when I start building the engine up tomorrow night.

Collection Had a quick look over this wagon and went for a drive in his other one. Back home No time to waste. First area of attack front passengers wing. Most of it looks fine Small hole in front of sill cut out welded and stonechipped (rubbish photo!) Left that to dry and got on with wiring loom soldered the 4 cut wires back together. Then run the loom around engine bay to where it all should be Refitted wing ready to repair (Lights back in now) Welded a new bit into bottom of wing to hold it on, blew a few holes that i chased around for quite some time! Thats been ground down with a quick coat of satin black to blend it in for now. Next thing to attack is rear arches but i need to pay someone a visit for them...........

The roof rack is an amco item, i chucked it on to see if it was all there, which it is, it'll probably stay as its a PITA to remove the rails.

Yay- an S12 being saved, huge respect to you now. Ive had a soft spot for these ever since my old neighbour had one, used to love seeing that thing be a bit 'lively'. Even more so when we had snow. ;D. Seriously are a dying breed now, don't think Ives een one on the road for over a year.

Fuel pipes made and fitted need to wait for a few clips to turn up to secure them but there are in and waiting.
Checked over loom and found a mystery wire that has been cut off, will investigate that now, tidy up garage and build up the engine.

Some brilliant work going on here, RESTECP. I saw that for sale when it was complete and thought, 'never seen one as early as that, would be tragic for it to get enginebummed', but sure enough.... anyway you have stepped up to the plate and for that I take my hat off to you. Looks in great nick considering, even got a set of pukka dealer plates!! Brilliant.

Soooo Done quite well today. Fuel lines are waiting on 2 clips to hold the rear bits in place but they are in and hooked up to tank so i can get engine in and running. Had a bit of a result with the mystery wire, i was pretty sure it was the charge warning light wire that was hanging free (had a bit of trouble with the datsun that engine went into) So went to grab a bit of wire and found another starting/charging/gearbox loom sat in the box of bits, one screw and 2 plugs later its sorted Did the fuel pipe and wire so quick i found myself with some time to spare so had a look over what i have bought. I didn't really look at it much before buying it Seems it was quite well specced up when ordered. Wash wipe headlamps, passenger foot rest and factory sunroof Then there is the roof rack, its a really nice bit of retro kit, the rails and brackets are good quality stainless (shame about the bars though!!) Looks like its been designed for an s12 only stamp i can find is amco. Mrs had a look over it and for a change she likes it but poked holes in the practicality of it Then got on with some real work again. Stripped all the nessecary bits off the donor engine ready to build up the Auto engine into a complete manual. Its quite handy having an engine stand and a clear bench to chuck everything on. I continue to be amazed at how well the majority of the underside is holding up 2 small areas where the underseal was a bit flakey, removed it, cleaned it up and applied some underseal. Came across a hole in the seat belt anchorage ( it doesn't have seat belts in rear so good to know its all there if i want them!) Chopped the worst of it out and welded a patch in Car is now sat awaiting some more welder love around the arches, I'm not surprised there is rust around them i couldn't feel the 12mm lip at all with all the mud stuck up there. The passengers side one is the better of the 2 although there seems to be more work around the edge of the arch than the other side.

Dropped the lad off at school and came home to some deliveries. After some time with the spanners (with no instructions I might add!!) I built myself something that resembles an engine crane Ran local nissan parts centre and ordered the spigot bearing to fit the manual gearbox on the auto engine, none in stock so been ordered in for wednesday. With one arch as far as I can go without the rear quarter panels I thought I should make a start on the other side. So remember this: I hoped the welder had wanted to earn a decent amount for the welding hence the size of the repair compared to other side, turns out I was wrong Chop chop chop Its odd because the inner sill is mint, looks like its been caught in time Hunted around trying to find enough metal to sort it out but failed so headed down to the local sheet metal fab place (turns out my parents next door neighbour is the boss) he pointed out a pile I could go through so I found a nice big bit and he refused to take anything for it. RESULT!!!! Then collected the lad and took him to mcdonalds with the money I had for metal. Then made a start on the repairs Then made up a bit for either side but its too dark to see what I'm doing now. So have some poor quality blurry pictures of the factory options I could of flipped that up for a better view but it takes sooo long to wind it up with a screwdriver. Just time for some dinner then its off to swindon to get the rear quarters.
