Plenty of BMC cars have that kind of spring pan/wishbone set up. The factory manual tells you to get a couple of long bolts/studs, replace two of the pan bolts with these, take the other two pan bolts out and then use the length of the studs to wind the pan down away from the wishbone. But I imagine that is what vilerug has come up with. I always just used a jack like you have though. I like the rake

I think it'll confuse people until its parked next to a stock Mk2. The bits you notice (arch gap) aren't really any smaller so unless someone spots the smaller tyres it'll be interesting to see if people notice the lowness. It does look mega sweet though, rear wants to be 1/2" lower than the front and full fender skirts

I like the rake Ditto, however I can't help but wonder whether the wonderful arch / spat / trim ring & wheel relationship (sadly so rarely seen as far too many of these cars are now on chrome wires ) as per below will be ruined or improved by lowering: However as Matt says, full spats could look stunning, as per the Jag Mk1 - however that had a narrower rear track, so there may not be enough clearance on a Mk2 / 250 V8 for smooth full spats.

Seeing as my 'top secret' plans are also on other peoples minds, I might as well come clean and tell you all that full rear spats (covers) are very much on the cards. I had chosen this path at the weekend and was going to get a set of standard spats panelled in to make a full spat. It was only this morning though that I found out the early Mk1's had full spats. And they fit the Mk2's. Paul, the Mk1's did indeed have a narrower axle, but they also had a narrower body too. Mk1 spats on a M2 should enable me to still keep the original wheels & tyres. Funnily enough, not only were you and Stealthstylz thinking the same thing, but Rmad was too and he sent me this photoshop which visualises everything I had in my head (although I'm still not 100% convinced on the whitewalls?) The whole spat/tyre/arch gap issues is one that is really tricky to get right. The rear already visually looks very 'tucked' as it is...yet as you've seen induces masses of rake now that I've brought the front down. I reckon it only needs about 2" to 3" of drop at the back to give 'just enough' rake to balance out the rear tuck without it looking too comical. This is what led me to the conclusion that full rear spats were the right way to go (which was a hunch I had from the outset) The only issue is finding a set of Mk1 rear spats at a price I can justify. The 400 Euro ones I found are way out of my league and I reckon I could get a set of standard ones 'filled' in properly for that (Mikey's Dad is a bit of a legend with an english wheel and a welder) and I reckon the price of making a pair won't be anywhere near as much as buying some original ones. Watch this space......

Actually, the more I look at ^that^ 'shop by Rmad, the more I'm starting to warm to the idea of whitewalls. To put it in his own words, "bright whitewalls looked odd...dirty whitewalls FTW!" and I'm starting to agree. Also, Seth, yes, you are right about the spring platform idea as James has already confirmed. Four of the six bolts having longer studs and then whole platform can be wound up gradually with a combination of nuts on the studding and also the trolley jack for extra support/back-up. In other news again, here is a video of the rad being emptied on Sunday morning. I'd already emptied about 1/3 of it and it was only seeing a mass of pure yellow sludge coming out (of a radiator that had previously run clear when flushed) that I got Pollitt to film the rest. What you see here isn't anywhere near as bad as the first lot I poured out, but it gives you some idea of how much work the brick acid had done in just 24hrs! Looking into the cores now, it all looks amazingly clear and free from limescale! There is, however, a downside. The acid also seems to have highlighted that some of the limescale was also blocking some tiny holes in the rad. The brick acid has not only cleared the cores, but it has also opened up previously unknown some holes that were obviously blocked. Not ideal! HOWEVER! This morning I get a call from Mikeys Dad to ask how things were going. I told him about the 'stat being OK and told him of my progress on the radiator. His answer..."I've got one here that came in with a fully rebuilt car. It's still wrapped in cling film from when it was apparently re-cored. I'll send it over to you if you can get yours back to me. RESULT!!! Fingers crossed by the weekend I might have a replacement radiatior. I CANNOT WAIT TO GET BACK BEHIND THE WHEEL!!!!

Might give it a bit of extra character, without over doing it?

Just no! From the outset, this car was never going to be a Withnail & I tribute/pastiche/cliche (I'm actually aiming this comment at everyone who has posted up pics and references to the film ) As I quoted on a status on Brian Damaged's FB page, "As you know with me too Brian, it's blaggers all the way! None of this poncy airy fairy hippy stuff with Richard E Grant. The more people post Withnail & I up on RR, the more I want to punch them in the face." Don't take it the wrong way Dude, I just feel more in tune with going bank robber spec than removing a headlight and dressing like a hobo in the hope of getting a good rogering from Uncle Monty. Delete. haha! No offence taken, I'll be honest - I've never actually watched the film/series
