...or a Peugeot 605 to you and me.
First of all, before I yammer on about the car, I must thank Rysz and the Facebook massive for bringing this car to my attention. Were it not for his link-fu this beauty may have ended up being a taxi, or an engine donor or worse, it could have been bought by a Polli...ah. Never mind.
So yes, the car. I'm currently tooling around in the Rover of doom, as owned by James and Mark of this very parish. It came at good time, there was flexible finance (no, really) and it seemed to go places when I put fuel in it. However, it was only ever going to be a stop-gap until something better arrived. Little did I know the new arrival would embrace a foray into territory hitherto alien to myself - the world of French cars.
I was going to buy a Mondeo. My insurance company seemed to want extortionate amounts to move into such a rare and sought after vehicle. As such, I declined the Mondy. Then this happened, I bid for it thanks to unimaginable peer pressure and then, at 5pm today, I let out a little squeak as the clock ticked down and declared me the winner.
So, what is it?
Well, it's a 605 of course, but it's not a chip-fat-friendly oil burner. Oh no, she's the SRtI complete with an 8-valve 2.0 engine which happens to have a small blower strapped to it, producing 145bhp..once. It was 'unreliable' according to Wikipedia. Well, screw you wiki, I have a K-Series at the moment, and that's not exploded.
It's got electric this and that, which is nice. Plus, it's a facelift model which means (according to various sources) the electrics might refrain from killing me immediately. Always a bonus.
The main reason for buying it, though, was the brutally honest advert...
Peugeot 605 SRI TI 2.0 Turbo 1995 'N'
2 owners from new, 122,000 miles. 12 months mot, 6 months tax, totally immaculate
Full electrics - air con, remote central locking, tilt / slide sunroof, all electrics work, no faults.
Two spare keys and original spare wheel. All handbooks and all old MOT's.
Service history - drives like new - very economical - fantastic car.
Owner was too old to drive any longer. Tow bar used to tow a small trailer.
no pets or children, non smoker, no accident damage ever
The price for this slab of French unpopularity? That'll be £488, sir.
Just got to collect it now, but rest assured there'll be many more (better) pics as and when I do.
Oh, and on another note, I've never owned a French car. Over 130 cars owned, and not a Frenchy to be seen. This, ladies and gents, should be interesting...
