So I think I may build my wee locost with a 4AGE. PROBLEM IS THE t50 isn't exactly a common box. Managed to find a bell housing for a t50, but not the box.
Has anyone done another box to make a 4age rwd? Any hints or tips?

You can get abellhousing to type9. Works out significantly cheaper than what t50s sell for,!

A lot of the corolla boys are running type 9's in rally cars now as they're easier to find.

So that's why type9s are getting expensive!

Tell me about it MDH! Struggling to source a cheap one!
I wonder if BMW do removable bell housings on the getrag range?
Just a curse word the W58 is no use... Lots of old n/a supras with them.

I was looking for a W58 for ages but they seem to be stupid expensive too.
I picked one up cheap on evilbay and it ended up being an R154 (I think) supra turbo box. Didn't realise til I got it home...:-(
I don't think bimmers had removable bell housings, unless you have a short temper and a big hammer.....;-)
Oh for the days when you could pick up a good Type9 for under £50

Mdh, u probably lucked in there, the r154 is pretty robust and desirable. Drifters love them.

Time to hammer the chassis rails... You have to hammer the chassis rails to get a W58 in a Vitesse anyway. R154 - no way! Should be able to sell R154 for decent money and possibly even swap for W58...... Nick

MDH, a perfect excuse for le welder....
What are you thinking for that r154? Can you take a snap of the internal of the bell housing? I'm planning nasty things.

as above you can buy a bellhousing conversion to fit a Ford Type 9 box (out of a sierra or a pinto powered 5-speed Capri), but not overly cheap, £220 for the bellhousing and £100-150 for the box, depends on your budget www.rwdmotorsport.com/Bellhousings/Toyota-4AGE-to-Ford-Gearbox-Bellhousing/prod_58.htmlif you go this rout be carefull not to buy a 2.8i Capri box, they are different, easy way to tell is (if the box has the original bellhousing) sit it on its face, if the box sits flat its for a 4-pot, if the input shaft sticks out and the box wiggles about its a v6 box

Not got any of the bellhousing at the moment... I can take some next time I'm down there. As for the Vitesse, ive got another box in mind...

Does the 4age share a bellhousing pattern with a 3sge or BEAMS engine ? This was fitted in JDM altezza which is rwd, using the Aisin AZ6 6 speed box
Leen transmissions do a conversion front end for this gearbox to a 4 age, to fit in an AE86 corolla.

No, they are different blocks. Shame as it would offer a lot more options.
