I have spotted a mint 1987 Renault Espace mkI, but know absolutely nothing about french cars (VW and Audi being my norm). What is there to know besides that it actually was a Simca/Chrysler in the first place?

I'm pretty clueless about these apart from the following: - I grew up in one mk1 phase 2, TXE Injection, best car ever. - phase 1 cars have weak lower balljoints, phase 2 cars have Renault 25 items that are stronger They're made of fiberglass which means they are REALLY light, as in 1200kg for a 120hp car. Oh and they rock. Ours was exactly like this one:

Fibreglass? Really? Interesting.. Would imagine some steel supports that rust like theres no tomorrow then ;D And for the record - they are butt ugly, but everything has potential right?

The only thing I can teach you: BUY IT!!
Or sell it to me. I'd happily drive one back from Norway if it's a minter....I'd happily live with LHD if it meant having a Mk1.
So many fond memories, such brilliant vehicles, so versatile, so quirky, so retro, so cool.
Need I say more?

I didnt know there were any of these left. only one I knew of was parked in a hedge for god knows how long, that was replaced last year with a 1995 mk2 model (still parked in the hedge lol)
if its cheap and is really good I would get it as they are getting pretty rare now

There are PLENTY on leboncoin. Starting from about €500.
Frankly they're so good, if I were to find the one we had I'd buy it immediately. My parents had it form when I was 1 till when I was 11, and it's a bit of a dream car for me.
Incidentally, that 'shop is exactly how I was picturing one "done" in my head. This could lead to something someday.

That`s exactly the colour of the one I found:) Plus it has some original vinyl text on the sides. "Espace" plus a number and some letters i don`t remember. Must get off my ass and contact the owner then! Here in Norway I cannot remember ever seeing one that old..

You also have to worry about lacquer peel, but I guess in Trondheim UV rays aren't much of a problem ;D

I remember walking home from junior school in the late 80s and seeing a mk1 espace and thinking whoa that's different. Made me think of a spaceship. Probably one of the first cars I noticed. So yeah buy it.
