My girlfriend emma has bought a bit of a project. It's a gorgeous 1990 Peugeot 205. We need to change the rear cylinder and wheel bearing, but we have fallen at the first hurdle. We can't get the damn hub nut off! Where the edge has been bent to the indent on the stub axle, we can't bend it back. There isn't enough space to get a flathead screwdriver in, and my attempts to, have made it worse I took a picture to help explain the situation Thanks in advance

I usually just leave the nut stoved in and muscle it off - you'll need a long breaker bar but they're never usually that much trouble.

It's not handed and the stake is there as a last resort if the nut comes loose .its torqued up pretty tight so you'll need a long bar to get it undone . Slacken the handbrake cable off in case the drums are worn and won't get past the shoes

Sometimes a breaker bar is not always enough. If you have access to a rattle gun it will make taking it off a much less of an arduous task. A couple of other things. You should (well, are meant to) use a new nut everytime it is taken off (I even have a spare nut in the boot of my 205!). Ensure the nut is tightened up with a torque wrench once refitted .

Yeah I was thinking I might use the air impact gun. I've no ideas other than that. Oh, and I'll have a new nut for when it's all finnished don't worry. Thanks for your help guys

With the tabs, i use a small centre punch to get it started then a bigger one to make sure its bent right out of the way, go at it dead on not at an angle, much better and easier than a screwdriver.
