...that's what people keep telling me, anyway. But I disagree. On my 21st birthday, my parents gave me a private registration number - they even got me a square front plate so that 'DAN' could have its own line: 309 by dbizzle_, on Flickr Today's my 31st, so I've had a decade of swapping that plate around various cars. I've just been going through some old photos... 13-03-2011 16;51;08 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC01367 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC00738 by dbizzle_, on Flickr 1916v by dbizzle_, on Flickr ...and it's been on quite a few other cars that I can't find pics of too. No, the '398' doesn't have any significance, and the 'G' is just because the 309 I had at the time was already a G-reg. (And when they were looking at the plates, 'DAN 13L' was about £25k, so this was a much cheaper option!) So yeah, I've had ten years of being a private plate loser. Hurrah! May there be many more. So, for fun, here are some random others... SDC15069 by dbizzle_, on Flickr ...and, of course, the picture that always gets wheeled out: ...and, also always wheeled out, Pimlico Plumbers: BOG 2 Pimlico Plumbers by sarflondondunc, on Flickr TAP S7OP PIMLICO PLUMBERS by sarflondondunc, on Flickr T11E WC by sarflondondunc, on Flickr 2 BOG Pimlico Plumbers by sarflondondunc, on Flickr L00 2 R0D by sarflondondunc, on Flickr FEM4IE - Pimlico Plumbers by sarflondondunc, on Flickr PLLIG - Pimlico Plumbers by sarflondondunc, on Flickr A LEAK by sarflondondunc, on Flickr 7OILET Pimilco Plumbers by sarflondondunc, on Flickr ...and so on.

I got one for my birthday from the Mrs. I love it, the only thing I'm not so keen on is, if you happen to be having a "drive like a n0b day" your easily remembered lol. Obviously I have photoshopped out the numbers (my age lol)

UR 02 SLO used to be on Maserati about here and there's an X5 at the golf club sporting ON 03 PUT, which I quite like. Peter Allis famously had PUT 3 on his Silver Shadow in the 70s. And one of my own:-

I have always liked plates with less letters, they tend to make the car look a bit better, like cleaner and less cluttered. My only rules regarding taste are to not swear or be dirty, clever is better. And if you have to manipulate the letters for people to see what it says, you're being desperate - keep it legally displayed and only those observant/sharp enough deserve to see it anyway! Well i never really aspired to have one until i bought my Polo a few years ago. I've modified it so much that little is original, and i didn't like the original plate so i decided to give it my own identity. The plate had never been on a car before, and having thought of a few plates this was the one i was most pleased was available - not only that, but it was the same price as the other eight plates of the set (the 9th one 'B1UVA' was twice the cost, and none of them really do anything unless you have really odd initials).

OH's plate off her first self-bought car for £250 has now been on 6 or 7 cars nearly all of them Red and always spaced like this... ...until now where it doesn't quite work on J import squares. was tempted to buy 822 a few years ago but i thought it might look a little too sad. many moons ago used to see quite regularly on a Yellow mk3 'Tina......FRE4K

It depends on the plate, yours with "Dan" looks fine, it looks good and reads your name clearly. My mate at work, his neighbour has a private reg K6OTH, and he has KEITH, written under it in black letters half an inch high, to explain to passers by that his name is shares 3 of the same letters as his reg plate. It just looks plain stupid. I call his neighbour "Kay-six-oth". Other ones I don't like are where you will have something like V3JDS, and it will have "John David Smith" written under it. Any plate where a written explanation is needed just totally sucks.

There used to be a guy who drive round Manchester with a numberplate that, with the assistant of some seriously misplaced letters and bolts, read "Player". One assumes that "pillock" was unavailable.
It's one of those things that doesn't really float my boat but if it makes people happy, good luck to them.
