I've looked at lancer estates and thought it would be cool to swap in Evo running gear. Bit like Mitsi's answer to the Stagea

Scratch that idea. Apparently Mitsubishi did make 2500 lancer estates

There are quite a few Evo converted Protons over here, both FWD and 4WD. Full 4WD is not as simple as it sounds, you have to hack the rear floorpan out and weld an Evo one in, or make it all up from scratch.

I never knew that lol I did wonder about the floor pan as my mates Mitsi Colt had the tunnel already in it so 4x4 was a reasonably easy swap?! I don't know all the details of it tho

AFAIK Proton even used rebadged Evos for Rallying, I don't know if that was a works effort though. I've got a plan: 1. Aquire Evo I-III and a clapped-out Persona 2. Remove wing, bumpers, skirts of the evo, 3. Put on Proton trim 4. Job jobbed. ;D

They have the tunnel, but the rear section has a spare wheel well where the diff needs to go.

What would be cool is to use the Coupe version for a conversion, sort of like a Proton version of the 2 door Impreza STi.

A neighbour had a 2dr saloon version, tail lights looked like an early Imprezza, i told him the Lancer drive train went in but he wasn't interested in doing more than fit a Halfords air cone filter and DTM exhaust box.. Such a waste of opportunity.
There was also a little 3dr hatchback version of the Proton, has the same engine bay and floorpan, an Evo re-shelled into that would just be crazy!

Theres a guy local to me that converts both the coupes and 3 door to evo running gear for rallying
In true blue peter style, heres one he made earlier (ok how do you post pics here now photobuckets lengthened its urls?)
he also converted a Bmw 2002 to run honda s2000 running gear. Sorry no pics of this though

The Volvo S40/V40 also shares a similar amount of Evo under the skin.... Just a little food for thought. I even know someone who got as far as getting an Evo rear diff/suspension mounted before ditching the project, there was some cutting/drilling involved, but it was pretty minor. A V40 externally standard would definitely surprise a few people!

You see loads of Legnums and Stageas around here in Australia. They make good daily drivers for people who want speed and practicality.

I can think of another one. I couldn't say for sure but the looks are so similar that I reckon the Suzuki Baleno may be Subaru Impreza based. Baleno Estate Impreza estate, anyone else see the similarity?
