My South african citi golf (same as mk1 golf) occassionally cuts out.
When it does it, it doesn't really "cough" or splutter, it just dies.
The lights are still on, so electrics are fine, but engine is dead.
It will not fire up again using the cars momentum, but when I dip the clutch and turn the key it fires up again first time every time.
It's tricky to diagnose as it always starts again straight away. But I'm thinking it must be ignition related and probably the LT circuit as it doesn't splutter at all.
I'm wondering if this could be a symptom of a faulty Hall sender? Or maybe the ignition barrel?
I'm a bit clueless about how a Hall sender works or what it does.
It's as though something needs to be reset by me turning the key again. Anybody got any ideas?
