Hi all,
Had the Sigma on the road for a few weeks now and I've done close to 1000 miles on this diff. I noticed straight away that there was a knocking sound coming from the drivetrain. At first I thought it was the prop UJs as it was pretty intermittent. So I've crawled under to have a look. There is absolutely no play in the prop at all.
I span the wheels up with the car on axle stands and found the knocking noise coming the diff. I also noticed with the diff not spinning that there's about 10 degrees of play on the input shaft. I know there's a little bit of play at the wheels but I'd not expect that at the input shaft.
So I've done a bit of research and talked to a couple of people and I've found that spacing the CROWN wheel with some shims would possibly solve the issue? I'm going to get someone to do this rather than do it myself. I just wanted to make sure that this was the best option? Note that it'll be a horribly expensive process getting a new diff shipped over from Australia, not to mention I'd have to find somebody to pull it off a scapper for me.
After 1000 miles it hasn't gotten any worse but this doesn't mean that it won't. I'd rather get this sorted now before my gears get nommed by the backlash.
