www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/post-code-ratings.phpAnyone seen this before? I swapped my truck insurance onto a van today, for a nice low charge of £13, then I asked for a months temporary cover for my truck while I put it up for sale. I was then told they had been told I could not have temporary cover due to me living in a high risk postcode, which is LS15. Its a quiet area of outer Leeds and I have never seen any trouble or thefts while I have lived here.

never seen that before, i live in a D area and apparently motorbikes should be in a locked garage...though tbh Southport is a mix of doddering old bids and then young idiots who try to overtake in stupid places, so there are a fair few accidents, don't see why bikes need to be in a garage, there has never been a problem with thefts here

Oh! I currently live in NG19, a nice low group B - but I've just bought a house in S13, group F!
Be interesting to see how that affects he premium.

I have never understood why the small new-town of Peterlee/ ex mining village of Horden with the SR8 post code is a Higher (E) risk than ANY area in the city of York! I Demand a re-count

You can use that as guide, but the insurers will go far more granular than that unfortunately.
Every insurer will perform their own acturial analysis of postcodes. There isn't a set list of rates. This analysis will then provide a risk model which suits the insurers apetite. This is most likely to be down to postcode sector level (e.g. AB12 A). There's about 11,000 postcode sectors. However, they may operate down to full postcodes (1.8 million of these), but due to the large list, this often works as an exception list. e.g. major theft hotspots or in the case of household insurance a list of postcodes with a poor risk for flood.

Two words - Halton Moor I'm LS15 too. Halton Moor, yeah you are right there, I am just off Crossgates behind the big paws for thought pet shop. There's never been any bother in the last 8 years I have lived here. When I moved here from NE37, which is also a F code, same as LS15, I swapped my car insurance, and they said it was the same premium and charged a £20 admin fee, but when I swapped my bike insurance it doubled as they said my postcode was the 2nd worst area, apart from some in Northern Island.

Ah, i'm on the Ring Road opposite the mormon church. We don't get any trouble either, probably just too far for the Halton Moor dickheads to carry a flatscreen telly back after they've nicked it out of your house.

My post code is an 'F' area. My car is insurance group 17. Fully comp cover was £265. Meh.

Mine is a refer... it's a nice area but it's not helped by the 100's of break in and take's we have had in the past 12 months around here - All seem to be VW/Audi/BMW. Think the record is 12 nearly new car's taken in 1 night in this postcode, if we didnt have a dog it would have been 13...

I'd take it all with a pinch of salt. I apparently live in a band A postcode. One of my neighbours appears to deal weed, and I've given a witness statement regarding the violence of the other. Yes, we're looking to move, and no, car insurance cost is not being taken into consideration

Apart from them not giving me temporary cover, the prices I pay for my car, van and motorbikes are great

Hi, as said I don't think it is about you living in a rough area, i think it's about you living in a good area. People will think ' that's a nice area, they will have decent stuff, let's go nick it ' But insurance companies take all sorts of things into consideration, vehicle, drivers age, job, star sign (I kid you not) all gathered over the years from statistics, so that is why different companies charge differently because they put different assessments on their statistics.

A ;D Tbh my insurance actually went up when I moved from another A 30 miles away ... So no idea what that means theres also a place that i know of where LOADS of motorbikes go missing and end up in the woods... Yet thats classed as an A too... with no mention of motorbikes to be kept in garages...
