rustproof the underside of my van what to go for??

chaps chicks, i am planning to rustproof the underside of my van

its used daily but is basicly rust free, just some wire brushing needed

i have curse word-loads of cavity wax so obviously i'll squirt that in all the box sections/cavitys

the underside of my van is mostly the OE electrocoat finish & some stonechip

my options:

hammerite black underseal with added waxoyl-not a fan of undeseal really!!!

upol raptor loadbed paint which i have used before & i really rate it, its really chip resistant & is suprisingly thick-a very hard tough finish

dinitrol underbody WAX coating apparantly its very good???

my plan is to clean & coat the underside of my van in a really good coating to seal the underside from the elements

then inject all box sections with cavity wax-fookin loads of it basicly as i have lots

after injecting cavity wax a week or two later i will inject "fireproof/resistant" expanding foam into for instance the A posts/B posts/box sections/ panel stiffening sections/certain areas of the doors

expanding foam is used by alot of luxery car manufacterers as sound deadening

any advice for underbody rust proofing is the main dealeo at the moment though

foam is like a sponge , i wouldnt advise it myself , unless theres something ive missed? ,

Expanding foam is bad stuff. It's foam, so if it gets damn, let alone wet, it will hold moisture against metal.

This is bad.

If you're worried about noise get some asphalt sheeting stuff like Dynamat.

I wouldn't use the foam. I've used the dinitrol stuff after loads of recommendations on here

The only major rust on my van was from where someone put spray foam in the sill, it held moisture and destroyed everything around it. The rest of your plans seem pretty good though, the bedliner stuff will cut down on noise considerably, just hammer quite a few coats of that on and you'll be golden.

the pros apply using a cheap underbody coating gun (circa £10) and a compressor. The product comes in these cardboard containers.




Couple of different brands. The only potential issue I can see is you might not have a compressor? Could hire or borrow one I suppose? Could even buy one... small compressors are great for pumping up tyres and doing the odd bit of spraying. Likes of Aldi do some scary cheapy ones.

I did the underside of my project with this method. Because I wanted it done real good I kept my OEM underseal, cleaned it good, applied stonechip and then followed with the waxoil type. So hit it twice. It's about 4 to 5 tubes to cover the bottom of a car thoroughly. Between £2.50 / £5.00 a tube.
