hi all, got a little hobble on this weekend welding a mazda 323. going to have to remove the front seats but they have side airbags built in. do i just unplug them? or do i disconect the battery or is there anything else i need to know?

best remove them to be safe . just disconect the battery live lead . turn on the ignition and leave it 5/10 mins.
that drains of any charge left in the system. just to remember to turn the ignition off before reconnecting the battery
hopefully you wont have the air bag light comeing on

Disconnecting the battery, leaving the car for a while afterwards (some say 15 minutes (I have seen people do this without issue, I tend to wait 1/2 hour!) and then disconnect and remove the seats  . |

Yes, disconnect the battery and wait 15 minutes, that's what they say you should do. In the real world no one really bothers. I've removed probably hundreds of airbags and reconnected them without disconnecting the battery and never had a single incident.

Just noticed the above comment. If you turn the ignition on with the airbags disconnected you will get the airbag light coming on. Once they're disconnected leave the ignition off until they're connected up again.
Airbag systems are like abs. If a fault is seen by the ecu it will leave the light on untill the memory is cleared.
