Well folks I'm wondering what its worth, not my car but a good friend, 1977 mk1 vauxhall cavalier 1.9, white. Body work is not so good, filler, welding ect but all one colour. One of those cars thats all right from a far, but far from alright sort of thing. The interior is nice but dash cracked. Currently out of MOT but this is in hand so values as if it had one please. Everything is standard. The best bit, this is a one owner from new car, and still owned by him now. Basically he is being told to scrap it (about £100 round here). His wife wont travel in it anymore, and after 36 years they want a new car, he regrets not taking advantage of the scrapage scheme. Personally i think its a shame to scrap it but wondering what its worth as currently it needs money spending on the carb to fix a fault (reason its out of MOT/off road) and we are both wondering if its worth it? cheers,

Its a 4 door saloon, I'm sure its a GL, sorry forgot those bits. also interior is red and always had covers on, shame the dash is cracked. I don't have any photos but will take some next time I'm there. The car wasnt running right, stall at every junction, pain to restart ect. The mechanic decided the jets needed blowing out (why do mechanics do everything with an air blower?) made it worse and gave up. Ive set the timming which was way out, adjusted the contact breaker properly after filing it flat (manufacture defect) and thats improved it loads, but the engine was still not right and running like it had an air leak, realising the carb was actually loose its now off waiting for new gaskets I know they arent very desirable cars, hence the rarity but it does look kinda nice If it was tax free id add it to my collection.

Out of interest, whereabouts is the car based?
Sadly Cavaliers really don't fetch as much as they should. A few make decent money, but without an MOT you'll struggle to get £300 for a ratty one.

Probably worth £500 with an MOT & running ok.
Now if it was its sister car an Ascona B then triple that amount
