Those have to be the most awesome wheel arches of all times - ever!! Fantastic design!!! You'd expect something like this on a Bugatti 57 or something, but here it works very well indeed! And I can't say I've seen a circular wheel arch design like this before! Fantastic! Thanks for posting this! Will hve a read through that build thread this evening...

That's a lot of aero! It just looks so agressive and purposeful looking. I'm looking forward to seeing the Speedhunters article when that materialises, lets make sure it gets posted on here!

Honestly, the more I look at it, the less it grows on me I don't know if it's the arch treatment or what. The engineering looks stunning, but its not my favourite Evo Delta.

Just flicked through the build thread. Am upset now that they've cut up a perfectly good bit of automotive history. If they were going space frame, why not build from scratch with an FRP body, that way, no Delta Evos would be harmed in the making... Also, not sure on the engine setup... Know my Imp isn't running the stock engine, but it can be put back to stock (I have the box and motor to go back in) so it isn't sacrilegious. It's like when people put a V8 into an RX7

Hmm. OK, look at it this way: that Delta, in its original form, took up its own particular finite little piece of the Earth, right? And now, in this form, it inhabits exactly the same space. It's original in spirit, and has evolved according to the owner's desire. OK, it'd be tricky to return it to its original form, but perhaps he doesn't want to. Maybe he wants to keep it forever, in which case he'd be denying himself a piece of happiness if he didn't follow his dream and just kept it standard for the sake of not irritating people. Don't think of it in terms of 'there's only [x] of these, and now there's one less'. Think of it in terms of one man who wanted to build something cool out of that particular model, and did so. If it was your best mate who built it, would you be impressed and supportive, or would you tell him his behaviour was sacrilegious? Instead of focusing on the perceived 'negatives' of the build (for surely life is too short for that sort of business), instead focus on the positives. Look at this picture: Now look at it again. Here, I'll repost it for the sake of narrative flow, and to save you flicking your eyes back up: That exists. That's a real thing. Focus on that.

I wasn't being negative about the end result, just the way it was achieved. His work is amazing and I love the car. My point was the only original bit left from the Delta is the roof. So there was no need to cut it up to achieve what he has. It's a fully space framed chassis, not like he kept everything between the struts and tubbed it.

I know what you're saying. But perhaps, to the guy that built it, there's an important difference between saying 'I built this Evo' and 'I built this spaceframe that, to be honest, could have been any shape'. Perhaps the spirit of the build is as important as the end result.

I think you both (dbizzle and randywanger) have an equally valid argument. I'd personally side with the fact that this car would have been exactly the same, had he started with a normal Delta, so it's a bit of a shame to be rid of something so special. However, the fact that something equally as special (some will say more so, some will say no where near) has become of it helps, and I think dbizzle hit the nail on the head when he said the 'spirit' of the car. Cars like this always make people think, which is also a good thing. Plus it's friggin awesome

I think that's what I don't get about it. Stunning build, but it looks like a sillouette racer, not really an Evo. Saying that, one of my favourites is the Time Attack one, which doesn't really hold true to the shape. I'm strictly in the 'your car, your mods camp mind, and have never been a raving purist!

Maybe the rules of the class he races in state that the roof and pillars need to be original steel. IIRC that was one of the rules of silhouette racing but I might be wrong.
