So at work we have a lot of these: As you can tell they are pretty big, about 8ft when stood on end and about 2.5ft diameter, they come in from china and once we have emptied them they go off for scrap, any ideas on what could be done with one or anyone got a use for one? They come in full of fire extinguishant and pressured to about 3 bar and end up empty and if anything under a bit of vacuum, contents are environmentally safe and (obv) non flammable. IIRC they are rated for a working pressure of around 3.5Mpa and weigh around 400kg. Answers on a postcard...............

if i ever had the land i always thought buying a bulk amount of petrol and storing it for my own use, to get around painful full costs. if the scenario arose - this could be ideal petrol storage tank.

Do you live near a big river or the sea ? Would be good for floating pontoon . Are they mild steel/stainless/aluminium? Great bbq , or if your company wants to save money perhaps you could find someone who needs to ship some other sort of fluid and sell them on .

Nice idea, but if you store fuel at home, your limit is 2x10L metal containers or 2x5L plastic. More than that and you need a licence as a non-retail filling station and these regs apply... Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (2002) www.hse.gov.uk/fireandexplosion/dsear.htm(Petroleum Consolidation Act 1928) www.hse.gov.uk/fireandexplosion/petroleum.htm#consolidationSorry to be a party pooper.

No chance! It's bad enough getting a licence to bulk tank diesel (Red), let alone petrol! A better idea would be tanks for Kerosene, for domestic heating, But they need to be 'bunded' these days. (can be done with a wall tho)

Could you cleverly cut them along a templated, pre-determined line, and turn them onto park benches, folding part back as backrest and part as the front leg, just weling two legs into the back? What about selling them to Spit roast/hog roast guys as fire baskets, or even turning them into a large BBQ base??

The cert lasts 10 years and these ones have about 8.5 years left before a retest, however it costs a lot more to ship them back than it does to just buy new ones. The sheer size and weight of them seems to put most people off, got another 10 full ones turning up end of the week.

Waste oil storage maybe? Surely there's someone making something still in this country that they could send abroad using these?
