It is with much regret that I am selling my lovely, lovely Mazda 626. I can honestly say that this is the nicest car I've ever owned and I doubt I'll be owning something as lovely as this again for a long while. It's done a genuine 28,700 miles and has only one previous owner who quite clearly loved the car too. I bought the car back in November from an Retro Rides guy who was selling it on behalf of the original owner. I've done 6,000 trouble free miles since then.
To say it drives anything other than 'like a new car' would be a lie. To say the interior is anything other than 'like a new car' would be a lie. It literally feels, drives and even smells like a new car. All wafty, comfortable mile munching 5 door goodness of it.
Lets cut to the chase - the bad points. It does have some.
The old man who owned it before obviously didn't quite judge the size of it every time he parked it. As a result, the bumpers do have some scuffing on the corners (photos to come) and there is a dent in the NS of the tailgate and rear panel just by the rear NS light. There are a couple of really, really minor dents in a few other places, but I really do mean minor. Photos of all of these areas will be coming once I get the car washed. The only other bad point is the electric aerial popped out of the A pillar the other day. I haven't had chance to try and put it back in yet, but reckon I should be able to fix this. Other than that, I really cannot think of ANYTHING wrong with the car in any way.
So what about the rust? After all, it's a 22 year old car. Well, I can tell you there is none. NONE. I'm not just talking rot here, I am also talking about the complete absense of rust in any form on the bodywork. Bubbles coming through on the wheelarches? Not on this car. Blistering on the sills? Nope. Nothing, none, zero....I've never seen a car of this age look so good without having gone through a meticulous restoration. Please do come and see for yourself, you don't just have to take my word for it (or check out some of the detailed photos which show the kind of condition this car is in)
So what specs are there on this big slab of Japanese gold?
Power steering
Central locking
Electric windows (all round)
Electric slide & tilt sunroof
Electric mirrors
Electric aerial (see above)
Height adjust steering
Multi-adjust drivers seat (height, lumbar and quite a few others!)
Various cubby/storage areas
Underseat drawer
Raised roofline in the rear for...
Fold out 7 seat 'option' in boot
3 point seatbelts for all 7 seats
All of the above work perfectly with the exception of the aerial which I hope to fix.
The cars drives superbly. Starts every time without fuss and the auto gearbox is absolutely spot on. The car is so smooth, quiet and comfortable, you have to keep reminding yourself it's 22 years old! I cannot sing its praises highly enough. I replaced the front brake discs only last week with brand new Brembo discs becasue the originals were slightly warped. They were like this when I got it, it passed the MOT fine with them like this (they weren't bad at all) but I just decided to put new ones on because it was the only part of the mechanical side of the car that wasn't in perfect condition.
The engine bay in totally 'uncleaned' condition. I will be giving it a clean at the weekend when I do the bodywork and I expect it to come up like new (apart from things like the tarnished heatshields). The inner wings and other areas that might consider rusting all look perfect. As I would expect. Much better photos to come once it's been steam cleaned.
To give you an idea of how good it is in the engine bay, here is a close-up of the wiper motor wiring. I've not attempted to clean it, yet look at the condition of that wiring, the plugs, the motor itself!
The car comes with tax until the end of September and MOT until beginning of April. The car flew through the MOT with NO advisaries. On top of this, the MOT guy said it was in far better condition than most one year old cars he's seen and certainly better than any of the 3 year old cars he has in for their first MOT!!
Interior photos to come.
