Been a busy boy today in the garage, finished welding up the front inner wings, seam filled them and covered the lot in copious amounts of underseal I couldnt get her on her side in my single garage on my todd so l used the trolley l have her sat on right at the back then used its weight to get the front end way up high. Cleaned then undersealed the floor except the offside sill a tad rusty so l will need to sort that out the rest is very solid lm pleased to report so again lots of the sticky stuff went on, as l did l checked all break pipes all look great so gave them a coating 2 So after the sill is done l can concentrate on the running gear, it all needs sandblasting l did try with the drill but couldnt get in all the nuts n crannies, whats the best paint to use for the subframes etc?? I'm not stripping them down to be powdercoated, any recomendations greatly appreciated.. Might also be getting an early Favorit engine low mileage should bolt straight in and instant unleaded

Total lack of mojo at the moment don't know why every time l go out to the garage by the time lm set up and ready l cant be arsed.. Single garages can do that l guess, has anyone else had similar days, weeks, months.?? If so how did you get back into the swing of things.??

Draw up a plan of how you want the car to look when you're done, maybe buy some of the detail bits like a nice steering wheel or some fog lights and get back into the heart of it. new parts always boost my morale!

Yep, been there many times, don't know the answer really, as Yorkebar suggests maybe some new shiny bits ? In my experience every project goes through sticky/dormant/low MOJO phases (even throwing in the towel and considering selling), i've always just pushed it aside and did something else till MOJO returns (or advertised it, didn't sell so thought "i'm stick with it so i may as well finish it"), didn't touch my Escort at all last year, shamefully it's sat on my drive for the last six months (it's a rolling shell) but got it back into the garage Yesterday, gave it a clean, started welding the sump that i cut up about a year ago, that went well, MOJO has suddenly returned, should get the sump and pickup pipe finished next weekend, then sort out bits on the shell So stick with it, lack of MOJO is not uncommon

BTW forgot to mention i served my time as a Mechanic on these back in the late 80's, remember them being very easy to work on apart from the rear brakes needing a puller to get the brake drum off. If that was a glass sunroof it was probably fitted at the dealer, i remember fitting those during PDI's and cutting roofs open with a jigsaw , probably why the roof is distorted. Dealer changed from dealing in Skoda's to FSO's, worst move ever, he was out of business less than three years later. Great little things to drive, 1300's are nippy, steering is very light but direct, offset pedals take a bit of getting used to though.

Hey yeah thanks bud lve had a couple of old Skoda's lots of fun the roof did distort when l removed the sunroof and you can see its been chopped in there haha, lm thinking of fitting a full webasto cloth roof instead.. There is quite a large following for these old eastern bloc motors.. Thanks for the reminder l do need to buy a puller for the drums l had been for warned about that,so what escort is nested in your garage.??

so what escort is nested in your garage.?? It's the one in my sig line, an Ex Rally Rallycross car based on a MK4 shell, building a 3.9 Rover V8 for it, been at it about four years now, spent a fortune, still tons to do. There is a thread on here somewhere, mega buried, will try and update it at the weekend.

Single garages can do that l guess, has anyone else had similar days, weeks, months.?? If so how did you get back into the swing of things.?? My Midget had me 5 years into a two year project and I am probably three years into an 18 month project with the Vauxhall - so, do as I say not as I do. Seriously, Jerry Seinfeld, to improve as a writer committed to write every day. he then got a big calendar and a big magic marker and put on check mark on each day he wrote - he then got to see the line of checks grow and each one made it less likely he would break the chain. You can read about it here: lifehacker.com/281626/jerry-seinfelds-productivity-secretI have a calendar in my garage and a bunch of children's stickers from the movie Cars. Every day I work on the car I get to put a sticker on the date. It is my goal to have a sticker for each day of the year. Now I can't do that because some days I am out of town etc. etc. but, it gives me great pleasure to see the stickers grow, childish as it sounds and, with the weather currently at -10, it will provide the incentive I need to go out to the garage. Goofy I know but, even half an hour a day will restore a car. Oh, and BTW I have made more progress on the car since January than the year before.

Right so lve decided that welding upside down cant be helping the lack of mojo so l need a spit but looking at the prices OUCH.!! low budget build requires some clever thinking.. on that note l have been given some old warehouse racking 2 vertical frames and 3 horizontal bars so the plan is to design a spit to get the car on its side aiding welding, undersealing, pipe and suspension fitting.. will be cracking on with this although lve never welded metal like this :/ any advice much appreciated. Just been looking at inspirational pictures to give myself a kick up the preverbial. .

If it's a Rapid it should have semi trailing rear suspension.
If so, no hub puller required to remove the rear drums, they are not on keyed tapers like the smaller engined swing axle cars.
