That first North Yorkshire pic with the white Lada centre front is Richmond, as is the one below it with the monument.

Love these old pics , sadly don't have any to contribute myself but check out this for scenes from Glasgow in the 1970's (more buildings related though) urbanglasgow.co.uk/forum20.phpI'm on there a lot as BTJustice. Here are a few of mine, not sure on the dates. My Dads Astra and his friends cav. On an amusing side note, my Dads name is Donald Campbell and the owner of the Cavilier is Jim Clark; retro cars 6 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr This is back in Scarborough and is a shot from my Dads cinefilm; cine scan 17 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr You can watch the cine film footage here, it fits the thread theme perfectly; Dave

It's the randomness that makes these pictures great. It's interesting now, but in period, why would you take this picture?

Nope - just a desire to capture life as it was at the time we took our holiday. I was 32 when these photos were taken. I became "car aware" from the age of 5 and got the Hot Rod bug at the age of 10 (during a 4-year period of living in South Africa - best mate's older brother had a beach buggy and used to give me copies of Hot Rod to read), so I guess I was more aware of what may have seemed common at the time and what was likely to have disappeared from our roads within a few years of the photos being taken. I guess it was just my small attempt to preserve something of our automotive history. Oh, all the 1990 photos were taken on the first holiday that I (and the then future) Mrs G had together - our transport even back then was retro, a 1975 Mk2 Escort 1300 Ghia - wish I still had that! Thanks to all who have responded to this thread - keep it coming, stills or video!

Ha - if I'd read the thread properly, I'd have spotted that these were your own pictures! Silly me.

Top photo is in orchard drive,Newton,Swansea where me and my two mates got his mum to take a photo of us proudly displaying our golf's. Second is a close up of yours truly. All circa 1996/7 in a usual sunny day in mumbles and gower. OGF 186Y was seen on the roads back about 3/4 years ago and looking mint but I did notice on a quick DVLA check it hasn't been taxed in a while. Engine went pop on it sadly and after being well tucked up on a rebuild which never worked I shoved a mk2 engine in with 200000 miles from a car that hadn't moved in 7 years. Needless to say it was a rocket!!! Always the same eh? I've clearly not learned!!! Just scraping in is my series one rs turbo from 2000 outside my mums old house. Superb car and many happy hours had in that. C515SPG,maybe still about?

I think 2000 seems to be the year everything went wrong! Life seemed much better pre 2000. Super pics. Yeah, we were discussing this at work the other day. Things seemed to be simpler back then, whereas now seems to be on permanent fast forward. My old man has an astra like in the pic above 315k on the original engine when he sold it. He has plenty of these sort of pics, will have to hunt them out next time we vidit.

Is that green thing a Morris Minor with the chrome grin off a late Hillman Minx? Groovy! It very certainly is Chase! Still belongs to the guy who built it but I don't think it gets much use these days. Oh, in case anyone's wondering the black beastie at the far right is a 72 Corvette coupe. Rich
