Is there a Garage forum in the UK?

I am currently in the process of renovating my man cave/workshop/garage-call it what you will. I have spent far too many hours drooling over the build threads and companies that are on Garage Journal I realise that the equipment and space and tools and vehicles and the shear size of some of the garages on display there are far out of the reach of most of us, I wondered if there was a similar UK based forum where we could all share our build threads, ideas, equipment etc. Does anyone know of any? If not is it something that maybe we could add to the Retro-Rides pages? Or do I need to start the forum for myself? Would there be any intrest in a forum like this? Many of us operate our hobbies from shed's, garages or even just a driveway. I myself only have a sectional garage which I have extended and modified. Maybe a forum dedicated to our places of sanctuary, might raise the bar for the standards garages in this country? And discuss

I am in the process of the same thing. I have a 56sqm garage in east London. I have swept the dust and painted the floor, just about to install solar charging electrics, have race car and trailer and tools in there.

This was the garage at my mothers house a few weeks ago:

Sounds to me like this is a thread rather than a new section of the forum.

Have you had a look in the 'readers other modifications' forum here? Quite a few garages, with a range of sizes and budgets.

Charlie that's exactly what i'm talking about. Robinmasters, I have seen a few threads in Readers other modifications and found them intruiging. We all spend a lot of time in our garage/man cave/shed/lad's pad/driveway/unit so why not share some thoughts and ideas via the medium of the internets???

the workshop i share usually looks awful,
i wouldn't wanna share the mess we work in,
the workspace at the g/f's aint much better tbh

A forum would deffo be too much. But a Show us your Garage thread would be good. I'll start one when I get some better pics.

I seem to remember enjoying the Show is your Toolboxes thread on another forum. Oh dear.

Nobody has noticed the Garage Communities section then?

Readers other modifications shouldn't really have garages in it when they have their own board!

Maybe someone can weed them all out and we can get them moved?

Actually you do get that impression from looking at the first page. The pinned threads in there do say otherwise though, and if you dig a little deeper you'll find some more awesome ones hiding away, but the wanted/to let threads really let it down. Maybe they should have their own sub-forum?

I too spend silly amounts of time and invest alot of interest into my garage. While a mixture of retro and non-retro cars and bikes pass through my ownership, the one consistent area that I invest in is my tooling/garage equipment.

I agree the Garage Communities hasn't quite gone the way I was hoping it would with all the wanted ads but maybe if the people that are interested in discussing that stuff start using it for that it could take over.

I remember reading one particularly good thread in there whilst also being very achievable. I'll update one I've found it.

OK since I began all this bleating about a garage forum, here are some pictures of my man cave. Check out the 32" flat screen and DVD player on the right. I don't really watch it, I just stick on my Red Dwarf box set and listen. I get fed up of listening to the radio at work all day so it's nice to have some humour.


This is my home made sand blasting cabinet. I wanted one big enough to fit an alloy wheel in. They are fortunes to buy so I decided to make one instead. I still have to get a piece of glass cut.



And have a panoramic shot. I have to repaint the floor.

Also, i confess that i too thought that Garage communities was for folk looking to join in with a garage community. If a mod sees this I'd appreciate my thread being moved to the correct section!

Readers Other Mods is the place for you garage builds

The Garage Communities thing is there to encourage more organisation around garages like Area52, The Auto Barn, GeezerGarage and the Dutchies ..

I may as well chuck my offering up then seems it's starting to finally look like a garage. Spent all day on Sunday and last night putting the first floor in ready for the builders to come back and finish the blockwork (gables to be done). Up until a couple of months ago we'd only got as far as pouring the slab.....which we did 2 years ago

I have been following the Overdrive garage build as I too have a large precast garage although yours is much larger than mine Cracking work, looks great.

I'm just about to start a build at home, (got to do something with that bottom third of the garden ), plus ive got my workshop. think theres a thread on here somewhere, years out of date mind.

personally I think the garage build threads would work a lot better in the garage communities section, in a kinda ,heres everything i do in my manspace' kinda blog-thread, but hey-ho......
