The Wife's 1999 Pug 206 1.4 petrol failed its MOT on emissions today MISERABLY. They are through the ceiling. Other than that, it was ok. I' knew it was smelling rich but nothing like this. It was running a bit rough and over the last few weeks I've replaced the injectors, coil pack, blue temp sensor and lambda sensor. The emissions weren't slightly out, they were ridiculous. I'm thinking the cat is kaput? Anyone have any ideas before I buy a cat? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ?

A failed cat would give you around 0.5 co assuming the lambda is working properly and the hc isn't high . Post up the actual figures on the emmisions test

I'll post the figures up in the morning as I've left the sheet in the car and the car is round myt Moms. I've just text my mate who did the MOT and he said it was low Lambda and everything else was sky high. Like I said, I'll post the exact results up tomorrow. I'm just outside Wolverhampton so Notts is a bit too far, thanks for the offer though.

If lambda is below 0.8 then you would see co at 5% and above , usually dead lambda or wiring issue , seen plenty of cats that have been run for a while like that and still work after a good thrashing

Pattern Lambda sensors may not cure the issue. I have seen this occur on a few cars, where only an OE branded or genuine sensor will do the trick.

Blue sender is for the dash not ecu if its pre multiplex, so might have changed the wrong one...!

CO- 11.488% HC- 886 ppm Lambda- 0.717 I changed the green sender sorry, I keep saying blue because it's blue on my Golf ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) my plan was to stick a cat on, run some forte through it and give it a good thrashing on the M6. The Lambda is an Genuine sensor. My Pug knowledge is poop. I hate dealing with modern cars!

That lambda is WAY too low, it's not a problem with the cat (however the cat is probably donald ducked because of it)
Basically it looks like the ECU is slinging way too much fuel in. Normal suspect would be water temp sensor, but you've changed that so I would possibly suspect the air temp sensor and maybe throttle position sensor.
Were the injectors definitely 100% the correct ones with matching part numbers?
At this stage I would be trying to see if I could get it hooked up to a diagnostics computer to see what the crack is. I would imagine it's showing the Check Engine light?

There's no engine check light or STOP light which is puzzling. Both the lights come on and go off with ignition. It's running really rich, it stinks. The injectors and other parts I fitted were all spot-on.
MAP, air temp and throttle position sensors? There's another brown temp sensor on the thermostat housing (next to the green one I replaced) but I'm assuming this is for the fan etc?
Thanks for the replies as I was contemplating flogging it with no MOT. It's too tidy a car to give up yet.

I have vaguely similar issues with my old Audi. I could try replacing the lambda, then the temp sensor, then the TPS, then....
However, my MoT man recommended a local specialist who is confident that for £45 he can either fix it or pinpoint what is wrong for me. When I return from holiday, that's what I'm going to do I think.

Have you tried a 10 minute drive @ 6000rpm? Is the air filter ok?
I'm assuming you will have tried both of them though, it's just thats how I fixed my Sister in Law's corsa when it failed.
Another thought, have you put it through an MOT yourself before? Wondering if someone fitted one of those £10 "performance" chips that just make the car overfuel.

My Daughter's 206 failed its last 3 MOTs on emissions. Every year i dropped a bottle of cataclean and took it down the motorway in 4th gear at full pelt. Always passed after that each time.

brown sensor is the ac fan sensor, nowt to do with the engine management.
MAP is a good call.
