I have been a member for ages but haven't documented a build for a long time! After selling my last car, the type19 mk2 GTI (shown below)I was on the look out for a new project, I was initially looking for either another mk2 golf or a mk1 when a friend send me a link to the porsche, it was based in Newcastle so a fair distance from cardiff! After messages, pictures and videos from the owner I booked a flight to Newcastle to collect it. I have owned it since November and i like to think its has changed over the past 10 months for the better Now on to the cheap mans Porsche! This is what it looked like when i first collected it, totally factory with a few minor issues (leaking roof, various electrical issues rtegarding buttons and things not working)I couldnt say no really, beige is exactly what i was after and its an early spec car so it sat like this till after christmas and then i ordered GAZ coilovers and got them fitted ASAP, the fronts were a snip being shock and spring combined although the rear was a different story and i now have a total hate for torsion bars after spending weeks replacing parts and dropping the rear beam on the drive I had ordered the wheels just after i purchased the car and went for 17x7 Fuchs with 195/40/17's I will not bore you any longer with what happened since this but lots has been replaced and upgraded and this is currently where i am with the build, i am going to lower the front a little more soon. see you at all at RR Show p.s. that awful SS chav 944 style exhaust has gone in favour of a stainless system and original back box

That looks really great but would look even better (and lower) without the sill level tide mark.

That is one awesome looking 924. I've bookmarked this thread and hope you'll keep it regularly updated. Check out the latest copy of 911 & Porsche World... Yours looks very similar to this one....

That looks very nice, especially with the wheels. I keep going back to them for my T3, maybe one day

The combination of the wheels, ride height, and body colour are fantastic. That and I really do like the touches Porsche did to the very first 924s released (the chrome etc. . Whilst I admit the lowness of it may bias matters how do you find the car on the Gaz coilovers? The MkII GTI also looks great! BTW if you wish to obtain a Dansk back box, and possibly a full system, let me know. A breaker local to me is scrapping a 924 with such bits .

thanks for the kind words guys As for the black sills, a few people have said this. I think i will keep them as they are, i want it looking as factory as possible bar the lack of arch gap and the silly over sized wheels, i just don't think it looks right. i will keep the thread updated, there is quite alot i have skipped but its all on the porsche 924 forum if your that bored and fancy a read lol I'm annoyed that the white one beat me to it, it took so long to do as i was waiting on custom adapters for the wheels and upgraded rear swing arm parts. oh well....maybe first in the UK? The GAZ coilovers were the cheapest option, spax, H&R....ect were all mega bucks! I have had it sat on them quite a while now and have no complaints what so ever, they are fully wound down and the ride is firm but not crashy at all. I rate them highly and GAZ only want £50 to send out shorter springs for the fronts as i want to drop it a tad more here are a few more recent pictures as the above are quite old now, the interior is my favourite part being brown tweed (the ultimate grandad spec in my eyes) I also made a horn puch as i didnt like the Nardi badge, i loked too modern for the car so had to go (along with that CD player ASAP)

I agree, that you should paint the sills body colour. I too think that it'll make it look lower. As for the white one beating you to it... It does have a little more to it than yours. Have you checked out where the engine is? I'm not sure I should show you this red one either...I found this one on the net quite a while ago. I'm glad to hear you are happy with the ride after lowering it, because I am thinking of lowering my 944, but are worried about ruining the ride and handling. Did you drive your 924 in anger before you lowered it? Do you think it corners better or worse?

It is probably as low as I would go in a road car though.

Did you drive your 924 in anger before you lowered it? Do you think it corners better or worse? Thats what I really dislike about the white one, they have removed the rub strips on the bumpers and painted the sills, looks a bit bland now and has lost some of its identity in my eyes. I know it has a beetle engine in the back though lol! don't get me wrong, its a wicked car and so clean......I would have just kept a few more factory touches thats all. As for the foreign red one, thats truly amazing and a turbo too thats on 18's and pulls them off really well. The only think mine has on these cars is that I think its lower I will be looking at some wide motorsport split rims for next year I think It handles really well though, its more firm and has a lower centre of gravity so its a little retro racer now lol. I cant drive mine as hard as others as its quite low but if you drop yours one spline on the rear (bloody torsion bars) and then just adjust the front coilovers to suite you will be laughing

no real engine plans apart from tidy the bay up, its not fast but its reliable and quite good on fuel (for european trips) and i love the fact its a non contact engine. That may change in the future and depending on how long i have it though Bigperm get your ass down here then, i will text you my address and i expect the work to be done before our beers later at the fino

To say this is perfect is an understatement. I went off the whole slammed, big wheels low profile tyres look years ago but it works so well on this id even consider doing it myself if I could insure a 924 at a reasonable sum.
Out of pure interest, whats it like to drive that low?
