Hi all I thought I would post some pictures of my newly aquired Sierra. She is a 1.8 LX with the CVH lump. A mate bought it from Essex and then the water pump started to leak and during his attempt change it he got the timing wrong so it runs really lumpy and had a squeal when running and the back bumper really needs changing as it has a crack/hole. The squeal was from a badly worn alternator belt which I have now cured. Its even MOT'd till October. He decided to scrap the car thinking it was damaged, luckily for me I had an old escort mk5 cabriolet that I was messing with but needing loads of work like paint, panel and electric to name but a few. So a deal was hatched I would scrap my old convertible and get the sierra for what ever the escort made across the bridge which was £120 He also got to keep the steelies from the sierra but that didnt matter as I have a set of Mondeo 16" rims in the back garden. It has absolutely no rattles or squeaks or bangs when driving it and the gearbox is like new super tight with no play. Any way enough of my talking time for some pictures.... I do have the other alloy but it needs a tyre Heres the engine bay Interior I must admit I am not sure whether to keep the car or sell it off to help fund a Rover SD1 but time will tell. Thanks for looking

Nice one, allways liked the Sierra.
An idiot farmer friend of mine had an XR4x4 in his yard for years, full rally spec (big brakes, proper cage, alloy tank etc....) I asked about it a few months back and he had scrapped it !!

Thanks for the replies. Just had a real curse word day and got made redundant, got the bus home feeling a bit miserable to be honest and when I turned the corner of my road I saw the Sierra and it made me smile and lifted my mood a fair bit. It really does make you wonder what goes through peoples minds scrapping cars this clean. If he had said no to my deal I would have followed him to the weigh bridge and sorted something out with them.(I get on well with the weigh bridge owner) He scraps so many cars, the other week he bridged a Pug 306 diesel with full mint leather trim the lot just because it split an oil pipe....he didnt tell me he scrapped it till the other day. I reckon any mods I do to the old girl will be fully reversible so will possibly be something along the lines of drop it a fair bit. When we used to mess with sierra's years ago the first thing we did was fit some old school wolfrace slots to em, it made them look tough as hell so may go that way for a laugh and then see where it takes me. Taxi rep now that would be a laugh, may even make some money Scrapping an XR4x4 is crazy even in a bad state they are at least worth attempting to save. Either way she has to be reliable as it will be my daily although still not 100% on whether to keep or sell just yet. I love my Rovers and would love another, funny thing is when I have one I hate them when I don't I need another Any way here are a few more pics of the motor Rear arch (Both are this clean) Rear lights Back end She even came with the original keyring from the supplier and original delivery paperwork. Yes you are spot on Captain alloys are off a later mondeo and will be replace as soon as, they were only put on as he wanted the steelies back as part of the deal and will sold off at some point.

Already been slugging around on Ebay. Blimey the slots got expensive I remember when they could be got for 20 quid a set lol Also found a new cambelt and service kit for not much money so it will be running right. My missus hates looking through our watch page cos it takes ages to find what she watched due to all the car bits Thanks mate. I will find work soon enough even if its cleaning loo's if the money is there I will do it lol I may try the rims on my other spare escort cab on there to see how far they hang out the arches, they pretty much fill the arches on a cosworth kit so will be interesting although 90's rims they look a bit too modern I think but it will be a laugh.

Small update... I have now sorted the timing and she pulls like a train now. The alternator belt has been replaced now too. I have had a visit from the guy I got the car off he brought me every MOT the car has ever had, not once has it had an advisory !!! And this bit amazed me The original master key that was supplied with the car. I have never even seen one of these for a Sierra and I have over the years had quite a few. He said the car was an ex Ford demo car and when it was sold it was one of their mechanics that bought it who kept it until he died. Now that would explain why there is no service history yet every part even the spark plugs are Ford parts. Amazing what can be found out isnt it:)

At the minute I really cant believe my luck with this car. I would have been happy if it was just a decent sierra but this one is a bit special I reckon.
Would love to find out for certain it was a demo car but wouldnt have a clue how to find out.
He just rang me to say he has a spray can of wedgewood blue and a haynes manual for it that I can have too...cool eh

Nice save The Gates group are still going so it may be worth a call, there are about 4 or 5 dealers in different areas and may be to old to come up on the system but it is worth a try, also once in your name you can pay £5 to dvla for copies of every v5 and owner details, this will pin point esactly where it is from and maybe some more history good luck! www.gates.co.uk/
