Are MM Vans officially a separate chassis? Would it be possible to build a couped and/or chopped body using the back half of a modified 2Dr saloon shell and the van cab - or even full saloon body? and avoid the need to have an IVA on the vehicle because the original chassis is unmodified? I have a vague recollection that the Travellers are not built on a van chassis - so definitely couldn't be used. I suspect that the main stumbling block with this project would be the high values of the vans in the first place. Here's one that could be the start of the project... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Morris-Minor-pickup-van-restoration-project-/171095018563?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item27d60ecc43

I like your thinking. However I gather that it is a bit of a grey area, as the cab needs to be in place to fit the front suspension, as the top link / wishbone is also the (lever arm) damper, which is bolted to the bulkhead. Travellers, saloons and convertibles are all monocoque - only the LCVs used the chassis pictured. These consisted of the van, pickup and chassis cab variants (for the later for aftermarket rear bodies). Thus, I suspect that the Feds will categorise the cab as part of the body that cannot be hacked about, due to them not considering it to have separate chassis status. Also, I recall reading that they frown on swapping the van body for a pickup one, even though it is a straight bolt-on swap, with no cutting etc. Can't remember where it was, but stuck in my mind as yet another example of the madness of some of the regs...

Surely as you are ok to add to a chassis, just not remove anything you could fabricate some new top arm mounts. And if you're retaining the stock engine/box/axles etc then should be no issues on points

Could you not just get a tourer and get a saloon roof and chop it down to fit because they already had a strengthened chassis?
