Read about it here! www.theimpclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6095An Imp Club member heard about a possible Rootes dealership frozen in time after the 1974 invasion and subsequent partitioning of Cyprus. Allegedly, it is lurking in the neutral zone that only UN troops have access to. It turns out that there may be a basement full of 1974 Toyotas in a building formerly owned by the Toyota dealer in Cyprus... Interesting thread! "I'm"

Blimey. All sounds exciting. Hope the Cypriot fella gets access to the warehouse, I'm guessing even if they've been bashed about a bit most of the cars would still be rust free. Wonder what other gems are in that border... think about it, a lot of people probably abandoned cars with there homes whih would all be from the same era or even earlier.

I've seen a photo or two (Maybe even on this very forum) of the basement with the Toyotas in it. Thjey were kinda grainy black and white - maybe mobile pghone photos - and it looked like a tornado had ripped through the storage area. Those cars may be new and unused but they aren't in as-new condition sadly. No idea if the damage has been done by bored UN soldiers in the last 30 years or if it was done during the invasion.

I went to cyprus about 6 years ago and we were taken on a boat ride around the eastern tip of the island. Well once you cross the border line you can see what used to be a major city on the cost just sitting there.
Now this town is not occupied by Turkish folk but its is on their section of the land, so basically you have what used to be a thriving town totally empty. To cut a long story short when I started taking photos (BIG NO NO I found out later) on zooming into the city I noticed a car dealership and it was just like 28days later. All you could see was old 70s cars just sitting there in the same position for decades (Of course hardly any rain fall) they looked a little dirty but still all ok.
Best of all the indoor showroom was still standing and was containing prestine motors and they were all Ford Escorts and Cortinas etc.
Someone is going to be a bit wealthy when they find that place thats for sure!!

Yeah, I recall that the original thread mentioned that they had been kicked about a lot by bored soldiers. What a waste! Still, there are bound to be some that are not as badly damaged and perhaps could be salvaged. I doubt they'd have rusted much, damaged or not. Cool photo. Where did you get it, angle? "I'm"

When I went on holiday in Limassol last summer with my fiance, we heard about this place. I canot remember what the city was called. I think it is now in the demilitarised UN-patrolled zone. Fascinating place, Cyprus. Lovely atmosphere too. And some really wonderful driving roads. "I'm"

If / when it all gets sorted out the property will hopefully all be returned to its righful owners. But whay you 'd get for a bunch of damaged 30 year old Toyotas or even Fords is not going to recompense you for the loss of three decades of your business, your home, etc.
And I've seen what they've done to "the other side's" cemetaries and stuff.
I just don;t get how stuff like this goes on in the modern world.

Would be literally a ghost town. so long as you can avoid getting shot by both sides or the UN force while you are there LOL I'm almost tempted to say they should keep it as is - as a monument to the futility of war. Perhaps certain world leaders should be given a trip there - and to the battlefields of the Somme and hit repeatedly round the head while 1000 people chant to them "this is what you are STILL doing to the world. Have you learned nothing from history you dumb bastards"

I went to Cyprus 2 yrs ago . The no mans land area has a viewing point .It is heavily guarded by aggresive soldiers ...don't understand why tho' .(mind you they are watching you wherever you go ,even in the main town )...p'raps I looked a bit drug dealerish !!! lol....There is definitely no way to get in there ...unless you wanna get shot !I'd heard about the car showroom story years ago .All I saw was shot up buildings with curtains flapping in the breeze . Judging by the state of the place I don't reckon there would be anything left in tact there now ,due to looters etc . Theres stuff strewn all over the place . Its surreal to see ,looks just like a movie set !Going back there in August ,so will have a snoop around !

Heres another picture from inside the divided capital Nicosia in Cyprus. Yes another Toyota dealer. This car is at a different location to the cars pictured earlier in the thread. I have sent this particular picture to practical classics recently.
