VICS is not at all the same as VTEC. It's a variable length intake system, opens a set of butterfly valves that extend the length of the intake tract to optimise power/torque. If disabled you'll notice a little difference in mid range torque etc. It's the same system used on Mk2 1.8 Mx5's, but different to the later VVT models (which makes a noticable difference).
VTEC switches over to a different (high lift) cam. Different system entirely.
Looks like a solid car though mate, always loved older mazdas (had 7 mx5's now) and a friend of mine had a 323 GT-R back in the day, didn't look too dissimilar to yours. Lovely machine that, rare to see on the roads even in GTI form. good luck with the sale.

Replied Cheers guys. It is a shame, but after buying a Rav 4 'J' import for the missus, I just can't justify keeping 3 cars at the moment. As usual, the pics make it look better than it is, but apart from a couple of holes in the boot, (bungs that have gone) its a solid little beast and is an absolute riot to drive and suprises a hell of a lot of more modern machines
