No cat b is not allowed on the road. Cat a destroy only Cat b parts only Cat c structural damage un economical to repair Cat d un econimical to repair That's from the vosa site, I suspect you are just getting confused Cat classifications are just that - they have no real relevance to how badly damaged or easily repairable a vehicle is, cat b can easily go back on the road, just needs to be sold to someone who wants to repair it, VIC test is required as per all total loss claims before they will issue a log book, the only ones that really don't get repaired are the burnouts and no id vehicles which are break/ dispose only. EDIT sorry didn't realise this had already been said further down the thread (several times) Please carry on as you were.

Personally I love it beige all over, please steer clear of the orange though! Nowadays its a bit chav to remove all the bits you can get off with a flatblade screwdriver, spray them neon colours, and then refit... to me it looks a bit tacky, so id stay stick to the beige and brown

Sweet jeebus that looks cool.
Concerning the paint - I reckon the roof only option is a little sceney - there are so many cars with just gloss black roofs.
I reckon the roof and pillars idea in brown - and the rest (including the bonnet) in beige would be hella cool!

Might work with your colours, too? Woah! That's so cool, but far beyond my skillset! only piffle would buy new wheels cos CBA cleaning the old ones ginola broon surely how about broon with beige highlights and fluro wheels Oldbus make him a trailer 120 in belge wtf i only ever use the bike for that how got away have you been in the car Oddly enough, I've been following Oldbus's trailer thread as inspiration. I have my old e430 wagon in the barn that is now scrap. I keep looking at it thinking it would be great towed behind the e55... Watch this space...? This is awesome, cost to run seems reasonable too - any scary bills in the pipeline as far as maintenance goes? Also - as an aside, what are the legalities with running at UK-reg car in Germany? Of course, it's a tuned Merc. Something expensive could go pop at any time. We love to play the Bangernomic barge challenge, big bill dodging is all part of the game. But yes. It needed new front discs recently. £650 for a pair! Found second hand ones... Phew! I live in the UK, just stay here in the week. Insurance company know. All perfectly legal. We don't talk about the 4.5 years I actually lived here with two UK vehicles... Jeez Stoff ..you have bigger plums than me as it looks so good in silver, ...you might aswell do it the same as roger though ! Bearing in mind you've bought the same colours Oh you noticed the colour similarity... But, you know - beige. Yeah. Indeed, it looks fine in Silver, but so do all the thousands of other silver w210 estates. So... Been playing again, taking peoples comments on board. I've also let some paint out, and the lighter colour is not as light as I envisaged. It is more sand colour, less taxi beige. Looks really nice on the small trim bits I painted this evening. So, some updated "artists" views... This is more realistic colours now. Made the bonnet light. Yeah, makes sense... Orange wheels Err, no! Black wheels Hmm, quite like that. Now I've seen this, I think roof colour may also well work. Shiney edges still though, obviously... Damnit, I know it is pretty unpopular, but I do like the darker bonnet... I do think doing anything orange though is going to look a bit rubbish, so will probably abandon that idea. Except the subtle "fünfundfünfzig" badge on the back on course

I changed my mind, I love the light bonnet, brown top half, and maybe brown wheel centres? +1! How about cream coloured wheels? Something different!! I think any bright colours would make it look too scene (whatever scene that is!). Beige it up!!

I bloody love these big MB wagons. Good work on the repairs. You're a brave man! Lol
I very nearly bid on an E55 wagon on egay a month or so ago, but in the end I bottled it at the fear of large running/maintenance costs. (It would have been my daily)
Ended up with a silver E320cdi estate. Looked for weeks but couldn't find any other colour that wasn't either rotten or at the other end of the country!
I'm looking at lowering it slightly but don't know how that works with the ESP system?

I thought there would be a bit more flexibility in Germany alright, you're just on holiday there a lot They're very strict on this in Ireland which is a shame as I'm not paying over £1500 (anything over 3 litre) to tax a car each year....

I'm looking at lowering it slightly but don't know how that works with the ESP system? Makes no difference to esp. On a CDi, they will have bigger spring pads, so you can order samller ones. £25 to lower an inch or so, and no spring cutting. Slight adjustment of the self levelling sensor and you are looking good. Front springs are easy to get out, the rears not so much...

Front springs are easy to get out, the rears not so much... Self levelling sensor. Hmmm, I thought it may have something like that with it having hydraulic hoses running to the shocks. I'll have to have a look for that then. I've got a workshop manual with it, so time for some homework. I've got a 'proper' telescopic spring compressor, so hoping the springs won't be a big issue. An inch is as much as I'd probably go tbh, so I'll look into the spring pads Cheers

You can usually see what pads you have, certainly on the front just by turning to full lock. Look at the rubber pad on the top of the spring. On the edge there will be little rubber blobs sticking out - 1 to 5 blobs showing which size pad. There is 4mm difference between the pad sizes, and I seem to remember reading somewhere that 1 blob less will give a 1.25cm drop. This image comes from a quick google search - blobs look like this, but obviously this pad is upside-down in the photo Good that you have the proper spring tool. You need to do an end at a time - i.e. get both front or rear wheels off the ground together otherwise you fight against the ARB. For the front, just release the dampers at the top mount first. Springs come out easily then. The rears are a little more tricky. You need to unbolt the shocks and ARB drop link from the lower wishbone. Can just about wiggle the compressed sprint out then. The rear shocks are a whatsit in the whatsit to get back in, but sure you'll manage. The sensor is on the rear lower right wishbone. Quite obvious and easy to spot when the car is on a ramp.

Thanks for that mate. That's brilliant! I've done W201 and W124 before, but not gone this modern, so it's reassuring to know it's fairly straight forwards

About time I updated this thread... When I rebuilt the front of the car it had 87500 miles on the clock, it now has around 112000. 25k totally trouble free miles in just over a year, mostly going back and forth between the UK(home) and Germany(work). I average around 19 mpg on LPG, which is a little low, but it's still running a flat map (i.e. it squirts the same amount of fuel in whatever the revs/load). Really need to find some time and play with the LPG mapping. Sure I could get as high as mid 20's if I get involved. It's not bothered me particularly, because the car runs so well on the current set-up - and also LPG is currently 39c a litre in Belgium - so the car is cheaper to run than my old Passat TDi. Other stuff... Well, it now sits a bit lower at the front with Lorinser springs all round, but left the rear in the end as it often gets quite a bit of weight thrown in there New genuine AMG brake discs all round (that wasn't cheap!), yellow stuff pads and braided hoses made a massive difference! I had a stainless exhaust made. Turns out that a car running on LPG doesn't need cats to be legal, so all four of those went in the bin! Resonators binned too. Now runs straight pipes from the manifold to the original stainless AMG rear box. I think it sounds ace! I put some audio on my Instagram feed: InstagramNeeded winter tyres (legal requirement in Germany), so found a second set of staggered AMG wheels. They were in really good condition and cheap, so they will be the summer wheels next year. This meant I could paint the old ones. Now fitted with Continental TS830 WinterContact tyres that are amazing in the snow, and even on cold wet mornings make so much difference. They are noisy though! Haven't got too far with the body yet, but the evenings will start to draw out soon... My son being useful and scraping the ice off: Oh yeah, and had an interesting blowout at 70mph on Friday. Not overly impressed as the tyre was only 4 months old. Although the car weaved and slapped across three lanes of M20, it was quite entertaining bringing it to a stop. Quite grateful it happened then, as a few hours earlier I was cruising at 130mph across Germany. That's about it for now. I know the car looks a bit rubbish half painted, but bare with me. If it comes out similar to the photoshop renders, I think it should look rather good when finished. Or not.

Nice work........
Slightly concerned for the feet placement when removing ice from the windscreen but I guess he's a little short on reach to do it from beside the car!!!
