I really enjoyed E38 back in 06, 07, 08 but I think it was around 2010 when I realised how much it had changed. Since the watercooled VW thing has reached the masses and been infiltrated by all sorts it's lost its way for me. I imagine it'll mostly be brand new cars with ridiculous retrims and airride, which to be fair is totally my thing except for the brand-new bit and the fact that anything worth less than £10k is considered a shed. Shame as the attitudes there and general atmosphere used to be great.

Anyway, to answer your question I own a watercooled VW and it's a no for me. I'd love to see the pictures though

Couldn't agree more. I love my watercooled VWs and own one. I wouldn't go there for love nor money.

Went in 08 and found people polishing cars in the que to get in then people polishing there cars in the show and shine, then polishing there car in the que to the campsite, then people polishing there cars on the campsite.

Far too much polishing for my liking I'm afraid and as EmDee said its all new cars built by bank of dad types!!!

But again pics would be good but will just be the same cars I've seen so dad this year.

My son and son in law have both gone in there dubs both on air ride and have been going for years and seem to enjoy it ,got there as the gates opened earlier and tents etc up .............asked me to go but I kindly refused ....



With reference to the above reply these dubs are both daily drivers and built/put together by them on low money budgets.....with a little help from me (not financial)

I'm here now, don't know which car I like best, the mk5 golf on rotiforms and air or the bora on rotiforms and air or the passat on rotiforms and air or the a4 on rotiforms and air, or the t5 van on rotiforms and air. I do enjoy it here though in my scruffy mk1.

My favourite part of the show was the fella from Still Static boring everyone on stage about how he builds cars to be driven low all the time, and that aired-out cars are for cop-outs, followed by the 12 of the best awards where 90% of the winners were aired-out cars.

Lots of different takes on the same show here !! I have been 3 years in a row with my orion !! I just go for the camping and the good times tbh but this year was overshadowd by huge group of morons on saturday nite who rushed the undertrained and understaffed securety people and ended up with them geting pelted with cans and bottles and reversing there jeep into a R32 which caused total mayhem. This for me has put me off going again to be fair, the show has been overrun by the curse word up non scene yobs that seem to blight these weekend camping events. As for the show cars, same old same old..............................

I enjoyed the weekend and have been going for the last five or so years.

But do agree, it's silly money. Putting air ride and wheels on a year old, £30k car isn't my idea of doing things... Also, it's getting more full of dickheads that go to get curse word and be 'lads'

Jesus - what a bunch of boorish cretins. Is that representative of the general atmosphere of the show? I go to a lot of shows but I've never been to E38 - if that's the sort of thing that goes on, I'm well out of it. Cannot stand that sort of aggressive laddishness.

According to the thread on edition38 the security tried to stop some people who were doing wheel spins and trying to drift around the field, the mob then turned on the security. Apparently there were bottles being thrown at them too

So it sounds like a minority spoiling things for the majority as seems to happen every time a show or meet gets to a certain size/popularity level. Bit of a shame really because E38 looks to have a really good set of cars of the older and newer variety and a bit of something for everything.

Personally, my favourite so far has to be that red Mk2 Golf pictured above mainly because of those amazing wheels that I want for my very own.

I've read up on this and it goes as follows. For the past few years there has been an unofficial strip through the campsite known as the 'Rev It' zone. Basically this is the entrance back onto the campsite from the show field and as people roll through, they're encouraged to rev up and show off. Well, of course this escalates from some revving right up until people are flooring it sideways through the alley or people and going round to do it all over again. Every year Edition38 try to clamp down on it and the video above is the result of those two particular security guards trying to shut it down. Now, there are various accounts of how this begun varying from the security were just doing their jobs through to security confiscating the keys of an innocent bystander, who knows? Either way, surely there is no place for this type of thing at a car show.

The response on E38 is very 50/50 with some saying that the rules are the rules, it's a static show, everyone knows this so driving of cars should be limited to coming and going at a snails pace or if needs must some gentle cruising around the site to take in the atmosphere. The other side of things is that the whole 'Rev It' thing is the highlight of the weekend and that everyone knew what they were doing and it's just people having fun in their cars. Which is all well and good, but you can also guarantee that some beers were involved and while revving up with the clutch firmly planted is relatively safe can anyone say that accelerating at speed, on dirt or grass, in a high powered, rear wheel drive car with lines of people either side of you is really a good idea? Okay, so it's fun at the time and I'm sure it's an adrenaline rush, but would all of those that are saying 'it's fooking great' be saying the same thing when the back end kicks out and takes down thirty-odd people? Probably not.



This combined with stories of excrement being smeared on every available surface, things being stolen, drug dealing, fights and general anti-social behaviour make me realise even more just how lucky we are with the Gathering. While there is nothing wrong with having a drink, partying and generally letting go for a weekend (as anyone who saw me at the Gathering will know I fully partake in this) when it gets to the point that peoples cars are being crashed into, gangs of people are wandering around looking for fights and parts and property are being stolen then it's just not giving off a pleasant vibe to me. So let this be a lesson to us all, if we want our highlight of the year to keep on being our highlight then we need to make sure we all follow each others leads and keep it as light hearted as possible.
