So after a long time and a lot of fun it's finally time to move on my CRX. It's been fantastically reliable and does good MPG (average about 40mpg, have got upto 47mpg on a long run!) It's a Non VTEC model, so while not quite as powerful as a VTEC, it's only a fraction slower to 60 and has much more mid range torque so is a lot more relaxed in normal driving. ECU has been chipped, so power is up a bit to 140bhp and it has been lowered with -35mm(?) Spax springs.
It drives great (honestly 2nd gen CRXs are one of the best handling FWD cars ever made) and is surprisingly practical - I'm really going to miss it, but it is starting to need some TLC again.
Up to now it's had everything it's needed (new front brakes in the last year, new rear pads last year, full service with filters and gearbox oil earlier this year, tyres are a matching set of Goodyears with decent tread), last year all it needed for the MOT was the handbrake adjusting. But it is starting to need a freshen up and has a bit of a noise from the front - I think an inner CV is getting a bit tired, still drives fine but this is why I'm pricing it lower than other solid CRXs. Sadly I barely have time for my Capri's let alone work on this and rather than run it into the ground, I'd prefer someone else take it on and give it the love it deserves. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on it, but it's got to the age that it will need something over the next year or so.
I had it resprayed a few years ago, and at the same time welded up all the usual CRX problem areas (Sills, rear panels, inner wings) I also fitted a pair of new rear arches - build thread here - www.retrorides.proboards.com/thread/42310?page=2
Body wise it's still really solid (one of the most solid I've seen) but some rust is starting to come through (bit on bonnet, RH rear arch) and a couple of other spots have been touched up so there are a couple of patches in the paint. With a respray it'd be in very good condition again.
I'll let the photos do the talking - the roof/mirrors are vinyl wrapped and this can easily be taken off (hair dryer and a bit of time should do it). Wheels are the standard ones painted black.
£1200ono. Might be open to a swap for something pre 1980 - but would need some cash my way.
