Well I just picked this up on Saturday after winning it on eBay last minute and not knowing what it would be like, it's a 200 Manual more door, in absolutely mint condition! Fresh 12 months mot and 6 months tax on it - I'm really really pleased with it, crazy clean. It's my new daily now as I sold my MX-5 the same day I picked this up. Plans coming up are to chop the springs of course and fit my BBS RM's I just picked up the other day as well (once I can afford some tyres). Here's some pics, enjoy: PS: If anyone has the MB front spring compressors and wants to loan/rent them out to me. You'd be a legend.

Felt the plates were letting down the otherwise mint exterior, so I got these made up: Will stick them on at the weekend whilst doing the headunit replacement and trial fitting them BBS!

Nice car, looks really clean. MrSpeedy rented me the appropriate spring compressors a while back if that's of any use to you.

I'm in Crawley, West Sussex. Cheers Tepper, will give him a PM now! Not much really to update today, as it's a slow Friday afternoon in the office - I decided to print my own sticker.

Pah! Took it to players today and on the way back I lost the fanbelt down the m25, had to come off and park it somewhere in London after letting the engine cool a bit on the hard shoulder - Will have to go rescue it tomorrow armed with a new fanbelt from euro car parts. Wish me luck.

Two weeks now, what's happened? Hope all is well and if it is, please make sure the rims are added.

Everything is fine, sorry for the lack of updates. New alternator belt is on and perfect again. I bought these last week... Which lead to this... And that lead to this... Also, got my new tyres mounted... The only thing I'm waiting on now is extended wheel bolts and 20mm spacers to turn up on Tuesday because et36 wheels do not fit, they hit on the tie rod end. I tried a cheap halfords 10mm spacers just to get them on, which cleared it till you turned the wheel... So for that I'm afraid you have to wait. I sort of judged how many coils to cut by looking through other RR w123 threads, however it really isn't low enough for me. I'm ordering a sump guard from Mercedes Benz tomorrow as they still have them cheap and then I think it needs more cutting. Especially at the front, although my rears do already dis-locate. Put them back in without any compressors lol.

Whats the kit called that you bought and how does it work? Sorry if its thats a rookie question, but I'd like to lower my Carina a bit, without going the whole hog and fitting 40mm lower springs (the only off the shelf solution), which will give a wibblepoo ride. I'm still a bit wary of cutting springs, cause I cant see how you can get them to sit flat at the cut end, against the top/bottom mount.

On the w123 only one side of the spring has a flat end, you simply cut the other side. Once the flat top of the spring locates in the top cup there's not much room for it to sit curse word. Those are Mercedes Benz specific spring compressors, can you not get access for ordinary spring compressors on yours then?

Those are Mercedes Benz specific spring compressors, can you not get access for ordinary spring compressors on yours then? Ah, I see, I get that now, they are just fancy looking spring compressors. On the Carina, the springs are flat at either end I'm pretty sure. So not sure what the solution is to ensure that the spring locates nice in the mount, once you cut them. I've seen some folk use some 'interesting' solutions, for example, a jubilee clip to flatten the last coil, but thats not for me.

Only got the rears on with 20mm hub centric spacers so far, the front spacers don't fit due to the hub being really long. So a friend of a friend at a machine shop is going to machine out the hub centric part and make them in to slip on spacers (hopefully today). Then fingers crossed they clear the tie rods and I don't end up doing it for nothing.

Here's the issue with the fronts, hopefully this thread solves the problem for other w123 owners buying spacers off eBay, you need the slip on type up front.
