After reading about so many other Vivas on here, I thought I'd add my latest
Cleverly, I forgot to take pics of it before I'd been at it with the T-Cut - (Is it me or is T-Cut really curse word nowadays???)
Anyways, I've known about this little beauty for a few years, it's been languishing in the back yard of a guy I know, he got it off an old couple nr Chester I think, they spent over 4 grand on resto work in the early 90's and it's covered very few miles since.
It had a BRAND NEW gearbox fitted by the PO a few years back, front carpets are missing due to the horrendous screen leak - there are new front and rear screen seals to fit and a very small amount of cosmetic work to sort out, but in the main it's really good.
The first job upon arrival was to get her fired up - after checking the oil (like new),replenishing the water (PO had drained the system as a precaution) and slowly turning her over by hand with the plugs out, we gave her a go - Nothing. Not even turning over.Lights didn't even dip when I turned the key. That'll explain the new starter solenoid in the boot then.Kind of a shame as the old one was original and looked kinda funky.
Once that was fitted, we had cranking action, but no cough.
No Spark. Points changed, condenser changed, rotten plugs changed and decent known working coil thrown on for good measure.
Crank again. We have spark.Still no cough.
Fuel.Or lack of it to the carb. I'd replaced the inline filter that had plainly been bought with shillings rather than pounds, and nowt was getting pumped into it, and I had taken the pre-emptive measure of throwing £15 in it on the journey to the unit - so I took the pump apart and cleaned stuff and reassembled, all seemed good. Realised that no fuel was leaking out of the detached fuel line. Blew the chronically tiny fuel line back with air to the tank. Flow was resumed.Reattach fuel line.
Crank again. She's away!!! But sick as a pig. On 3 cylinders. Doh.
Many more checks ensued, but it sounded to me like it was a valve.
Removed plug leads one by one, number 3 is the culprit.
Rocker cover off, lo and behold, displaced rocker arm. Checked valve, moving freely, but I reckon it was stuck in the first place, so refit, check and adjust valve clearance, rocker cover back on and fingers crossed.....
Sweet as a nut mate...
