1969 Nissan Patrol G60 ute (converted)

Hey guys. Here is my Patrol converted from a soft top to flatdeck ute by po. I got it from the original owner after it had served as a farm truck for its entire life. it was a mess but rust free and running ok. I've done a lot of work so far. I have shortened and relined deck, overhauled brakes with new rear shoes, few new lines etc, detailed engine, new leads, plugs, checked all ignition parts, removed roof and installed new isolation rubber, added battery box and kill switch, tuned engine, removed muffler and exhaust exits by drivers door, polish paint, thorough degrease and rust removal from chassis and drive train. The list goes on of little things. as it does! here is a pic of when we first met. and then most recent.

Before and After of engine bay. engine is a 4l inline six. 145hp @ 3800rpm. runs an electric fuel pump.

That's beautiful mate. Engine bay especially looks mint. Seeing fewer and fewer 4x4's on the road here due to the comical fuel prices but great to see the old ones getting used elsewhere. Top truck.

That's absolutely lovely!
I shall, no doubt, get lynched by my fellow Landy-Driving chums, but you look at Japanese trucks of this period (Patrols, Land-Crusiers etc.) and you can completely see why Land Rover got annihilated in countries such as Australia.

145BHP six cylinder as opposed to a 75BHP four cylinder, for starters!

bit harsh mate, you could opt for a 2.6L S6 if you fancied something slightly more terrible on fuel for very little gain in performance

Thanks Guys ! ive put in alot of hours so far just in cleanup. other maintenance includes checking and repacking wheel bearings, adjusting clutch and fixing all linkages, machined up new leaf spring bushes all round, wire brushing and painting chassis has begun. I have been using hammerite hammer finish paint. its good stuff. I have had it off road a few times but now its getting clean and nice ive quit that ha. I really appreciate all the comments. This truck has become a passion

well made new lining for handbrake using a nylon weave backed rubber. peeled some layers off till it was the perfect size. cut and trimmed to factory specs. just need to rivet it on and see how it goes.

heres it finished. test fitted and its perfect. factory specs thickness is 6.3mm. this is 6.7mm. just have to weld and redrill some linkage holes to remove excess play and I can refit. bled brakes after cleaning out master and removing some shims between master and mount to get pedal free play right, and they are finally mint!

I love these but have yet to find one for sale that isn't completely rotten or too expensive.

I'd never seen one until I moves to Aus.

yeah I got very lucky in that the po had coated the chassis in cold galv etc. was always parked in the barn. I paid $1200 ANZ for it. rego is live, just have it on hold till I get it inspected.

That's one cool truck! Loving the work you've done. DIY re-lining the handbrake shoes is a great bit of resourcefulness!

I love that it gets used on the rough stuff too. Excellent.

yesh I love finding ways around things myself. truth told only had it offroad twice and now its getting prettier it might not get anymore ha.

well fitted handbrake and linkages. welded and slotted hole that j bolt goes through to stop the lining band tilting back when you pull the lever. works alot better and holds very strong. Still tilts slightly, need to weld and redrill the pivot hole I think.
