FOR SALE
A unique UK Citroën DS Super in condition 3 with two owners, full history and original.
EQUIPMENT
Hydropneumatic suspension, chrome bumpers, chrome roofline rubber over-riders, power assisted steering, power operated brakes, 4 self-levelling quartz-iodine headlights, (2 directional), contoured seats, under bonnet spare, padded dash, cigar lighter, speedometer with combined braking distance chart, two tone alpine horns, 11 control warning lights, illuminated boot, child proof locks, map pockets in doors and bulkhead, lockable glove box folding armrests, heated rear window.
EXTERIOR
This aerodynamic Citroen DS Super is finished in Bleu d’Orient (Code AC616) and looks incredible and still futuristic even today. There are many imperfections that now grace the exterior which include small dings, minor scuffs, and paint cracking. This original example despite the scars is structurally perfect having never been welded and always garaged by the two owners. All the panels are factory fit from new and only the outer skin door bottoms are needing repair should the new owner desire. All the chrome, trim, glass and badging remains in excellent order. A very genuine, sound example which can be fully enjoyed as is but is now showing its age in areas.
INTERIOR
Sumptuous, comfortable and luxurious the Super specification is wonderful. From the blue ‘Targa’ upholstery to the contrasting grey carpets this interior is completely unique. The cockpit is a technological tour de force with fascinating and quirky gadgets that are all designed in an amazing unconventional manner. Watching the braking distance chart for example on the speedometer is a dangerous distraction from the airy and very spacious cabin. The driver’s seat is worn with frayed material and one spoke steering wheel has some foam missing but all other trim is in remarkable condition including the headlining and door cards. All the switches, stalks and gauges function but the tachometer and clock have stopped working. Clean, tidy and perfectly Citroen!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1995cc engine has a five bearing crankshaft and is incredibly smooth producing 108bhp at 5500rpm giving a top speed of 105mph and a 0-60 in 13.4 seconds. An impeccable service log boosts enjoyment while returning 27mpg. The column mounted 5-speed hydraulic all synchromesh gearbox is intuitive and a joy to use.
SUSPENSION
The hydropneumatic suspension on this example operates perfectly. This remarkable suspension acts each of the four wheels independently maintaining constant body-height irrespective of road service below or internal load. The manual lever located inside the car overrides the automatic mechanism so that the driver can physically raise the car from the driving seat to increase clearance over difficult terrain or lowered completely for easy loading. This is a must have driving experience for all car enthusiasts!
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The steel wheels are furnished with full width chrome disc covers in fabulous condition. Tyres are expensive but mandatory Michelin Radial 180 HR15 XAS all with ample tread remaining. The brakes are high pressure hydraulic servo controlled with automatic compensation for rear load variation. Initial caution on the first drive will need to be taken until the new owner becomes familiar with this Citroen trait.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 19thth April 1972 by Citroen Main Dealers Moto Baldet of Wellingborough, this incredible vehicle has only had two owners. The first, Mr John Barker of Wellingborough kept the vehicle for 12 years before part exchanging for the modern replacement, a Citroen CX. The second owner, Mr David Hunt a true Citroen advocate, kept a written log from his purchase in May 1984 from the same dealer. This log is in chronological order from the first entry on the 10th November 1984 to the latest in March 2012 and spans 10 pages in amazing detail of all work carried out. It will leave absolutely no doubt for the new owner how perfectly maintained this car is.
MOT January 27th 2014, Tax exempt and HPI Clear.
