Hi folks, only a week since I updated the build thread on this, so it seems a bit odd that I'd be selling it, BUT another car has come my way and it needs paying for so...
Here offered for sale is my 1971 Vauxhall Viva Estate, I've had it three years, it was on the road when I bought it, but a dead alternator and broken handbrake put it in the garage, where the restoration started and hasn't so far been finished....
The car runs, in fact it ALWAYS starts on the first turn, it's only a little 1159cc and the previous owner called it 'The Donkey' and that sums it up really. It was three different shades of bathroom suite green, some of which was sprayed on top of muck, no carpets, no headlining, and featured seats from an early nineties ford. The seatbelts on the passenger side were only any good if you weighed about 4 stone, due to the reel being mounte a long way back, in short - an unpleasant place to be, although the heater works and you don't get wet...
So, how the car is now...
Currently SORN'd
Road Tax Exempt
Resplendent in Red Oxide Primer, with a paint roller and brush finish. This is still an improvement on the 'sprayed' green it was in when I bought it...
Mechanically sound as far as I can tell, it drips a wee bit of oil, aka "Marking its territory".
Modern reclining bucket seats fitted, not to everyone's tastes, but they were what I had in the garage. Fitted with race harnesses.
The interior has been painted, the booty had been lined so you can carry whatever without fear of it being filthy at the other end. The rear seats are around somewhere, I will find them and put them with the car upon its sale. I'm not certain they are the correct ones for the car, as they were sort of sat in place, rather than fixed properly.
I've not touched the engine/transmission as it is all working fine.
It has a full NEW set of springs fitted, bespoke ones to suit this car, not cut down Nova springs, so it is sat approx 2" lower than standard, and is bloody 'ard!
The exhaust used to knock on the back axle, still needs attention, the rear mounting is pretty poor.
Skinny little legal tyres are fitted all round, as it's original 1971 spec, not the best if it's wet n' greasy at your favourite roundabout.... Spare wheel is good and in it's desired place in the car.
RUST!! This is the bit you'll want to read - Both sills need patching, with the o/s rear being the worst just near the rear arch - as per the photo. Other than that, there's a few drilled holes from the previous seat bodgery on the passenger side to sort, I've done the drivers side.... But in the main, for one of these, it's pretty damned solid.

Here goes.............
The back bumper is with the car, just wasn't the look I was going for...
Two Radiators, Rear estate side windows with seals, rear lights, some saloon, some estate, steering column, brake servo, master cylinder, Linear speedo as a spare (this is the one that was in the car, shows 38,000 miles or thereabouts on it) and three boxes of associated 1970's GM tat, most of which is Viva, but some might be Victor/Ventora too. There's an alternator in there somewhere also. The dust and spiders are free.
So - why am I selling it? A relative is selling an MX5 that I've known since they bought it new, that will take the place of my Viva, I need to sell this to buy that. It's that simple.
Any sensible questions please ask, The car does run and will drive but has no MOT, test pilots and dreamers need not apply.
The thread on the car is here: CLICKY
The car is in Scunthorpe DN16 and not too far from the motorway network.
Thankyou for looking, I hope you like what you see, there really isn't massive amounts of work to return 'The Donkey' to fitness, good luck!
