Porsches are totally alien to me, I've always admired from afar, but never owned one. I've just been offered the above car, but am trying to find out its value.
Its a 1983 911 sc targa with a 3.2 carrera engine upgrade. Showing 150k, starts and runs well, but smells of fuel, so assuming it needs a good service. It'll come with 12 months MOT. Fuchs alloys, good tyres. Car is black, with just minimal surface rust on the rear of the rear arches. Targa top starting to peel slightly on the front edge. Black leather, in good order.
So, the million dollar question; what is this worth? I've heard the seller wants £7500, which doesn't seem too bad to me. However, being a total Porsche novice, I was hoping some of the more knowledgeable folk here might have a better idea?

rot rot and more rot , that being it is priced at the bargain end of the spectrum.. You need yo get underneath it , or remove the rear wheels and inspect the kidneys , there is no protection in front of the rear wheels up to the b posts , they rust horribly from here.. This is mine , slight bubbling on b post , light bubble above rubber sill strip.. a new kidney don't know if the Targa has roof drain tubes , if it does the rear arch rust could be attributed to them being blocked. You need to drive it , a badly set up 915 gearbox is horrible , at 150k it may need a rebuild , plus have a look at the porsche tax on anything car related , Matt at type 911 is always a good source of stuff.. As its the 50th year of 911's this year prices have gone through the roof , even if it was a banger you could probably get your money back or more by breaking it , have a look at the impactbumpers forum , lots of info there..

Fuel smell will probably be to do with the heat exchangers/heater transfer system leaking fumes into the cabin! Be very careful with rust, they rot like hell - a posts, b pillars, sills, kidney bowls (behind the b posts), inner front arches, wings, battery tray, etc etc. Rust on the arches is not particularly common so I'd have a good look around the car and try to investigate everywhere possible.... Also the gearbox will probably be notchy into 3rd which is common but a lot of people live with it as a gearbox rebuild is £££££££. Engines are generally robust, a good service with the valve clearances checked etc would be worth doing. I have to be honest the general rule of thumb on the impact bumper forum is that a 911 is ALWAYS a 20k car by the time everything is sorted on it regardless of the buy price, it's worth having a good read on there £7.5k doesn't sound too bad but it's a high mileage SC targa so will never set the world on fire value wise but I would say it's definitely worth looking at. The good news is day to day maintenance etc on them is really simple, they are unbelievably agricultural and very simple to work on Good luck!

Cheers for the help guys. I`m going to try and get it up on a ramp in the next few days to have a proper look over it. It looks like a nice thing externally......but we all know what can be hidden underneath!

You told me you were a trader, is this one to buy and sell on? If so be prepared for what you are letting yourself in for is basically my advice If not it sounds like a nice project!

Yeah, it`s one to move on. That`s why I`m being careful with this one.....don`t want to get stung. However, I`ve been under it today, and had it on a lift. I was expecting the worst, but it`s almost solid as a rock. It`s been through an MOT too, with no advisory notes, other than brake pads.

That's good, then.
Keep it under five figures and think you should be able to move it on without much hassle.
