Hey y'all. Need to see a popular consensus if what i'm thinking is bang out of order or within my rights. I bid on a nice P5 the other week. Under payment options it states that 'pay pal - preferred method of payment'. Hunk-a-dory i think. E-mail seller about payment e-mail and get back that he doesn't accept pay pal as the auction is for a friend. So i talk it all out and bust my balls to sort out a large ammount of cash out - it ain't happening for one reason or another. I am now getting heat from friends who were helping me pick up the car and from the guy who's car it is. I am half thinking of jacking it all in, paying the advertisers' fees and whatever i have put the owner out of pocket by (not entirely sure how this works but meh) - is this out of order or within my (moral) rights?

I don't understand the issue? You're saying that you have enough money in your paypal account but not in your bank account? Just send some from your paypal to your bank. As long as it is over £50 there is no fee. Then just pull it out of the bank and pay the man....?

I can't sort out bank funding for some reason - tis bizarre, as it's set up the deposit thingamabob they do to a card/account that simply doesn't exist, and there is no way to change the account to which they set up bank funding.

On the main summary screen, click 'Profile' tab > go to 'financial information' >bottom right corner should be a button to add another bank account. Once you have added you can also make this your 'primary' account for sourcing from / sending money to. HTH

Why not just transfer the money into the owners account? To be honest I wont take Paypal for anything over £500 its too expensive And too risky. Once they have the goods they can recall the paypal payment and you're out ofpocket for the goods and the money. Happened to me. If your paypal is not linked with your bank at least you can't get themoney DD'd from your bank account but it takes 4-6 working days whatever to transfer the money back to the bank acc't either way so you are at risk all that time. Oddly it seems to mainly be Frenchies that do this to you. I presume the Paypal thing was left on there because he normally sells Beanie Babies or whatever and takes paypal for them. Its like when you see a car up for sale with £3 P&P.

I would think that you would be within your rights to pull out of the sale, without paying anything, as the ad stated that Paypal was taken (Preferred even). You bid on the car believing you could pay via Paypal (Done it myself, means I can buy the car on the old credit card). The seller is in breach of contract for not taking Paypal, not you.

seller should have stated car was not his - the main point here - and seems to have been ignored
and you should have emailed to check he would take paypal - as your bid contract is with the seller - not the owner of the car the situation is even more blurred
