Thought I'd try my luck with a modern here... as some old mondeo knowledge probably won't go amiss!
Need some help with my 2002 V6 X-Type.
Runs fine normally and doesn't usually have a problem. Came out to start it today and it's doing nothing. All the dash lights come on as normal but it wont turn over and the starter doesn't make any noise. I tried to bump start it by towing it down the road but again, nothing happened.
Does anyone have any ideas of common faults? It feels like an immobiliser problem to me but I havn't done anything different to it!
Thanks, Ryan

Hi mate. Think there's a fuse sumewhere for the starter circuit. Also use a booster just to rule out a bad battery - on a low battery the starter wont even engage the solenoid.

Has the car had a clutch change etc. recently? I would check the starter motor connections and see whether there is voltage present at the solenoid and main terminals .

Right... update... Issue time
There's no fuses blown and I've had the battery off for an hour but that hasn't fixed it either.
AA have been out twice, there's no power to the injector pump or the starter but when you run a live to the starter it turns over but won't fire.
Potentially going to have to find a Jag specialist :/

Sounds more like an immobiliser thing to me, might be worth investigating?

Sounds more like an immobiliser thing to me, might be worth investigating? Does your key fob have a battery? If so, change it and try again. Sounds like immobiliser isn't switching.

Is it an Auto? If so might it be worth looking into whether the P-N switch is stopping it from starting? As my Benz will only start in P or N

The immobilizer is nothing to do with the remote system. The transponder chip in the key is separate to the remote system and are programmed separately. Take the key to a locksmiths and see if they can read the chip. If they cant then the chip is knackered. If they can then it could be the chip still or the receiver ring on the ignition or an ecu fault.
