Hello all
My Merc has thrown a mystery at me.
Had it in the workshop all of last week to be resprayed (lovely job too, pics to follow)
When I picked it up it refused to start. We measured everything and the feed to the coil dropped very low (1-4V)
The voltage with the wire disconnected was a healthy 12V as you'd expect.
We replaced the coil, it started up straight away.
Until it died again. It then almost sounds like the car is running backwards, sounds like it is burping in the inlet. This is for 2 seconds or so after it dies.
I started her up this morning, and she runs lovely again, full rev range available, and running smooth as silk as one expects a I6 to run.
Got halfway to work, and it feels like it misses at idle, and struggles to get the revs up. Until you go over 2500 revs where things are smooth and lovely again.
Any ideas? I'm thinking dizzy cap/rotor, as I replaced those but was too tight to buy genuine? EZL unit apparently either works or doesn't, fuse is ok, the OVP seems to be ok too?
