That view of the dash rings a few bells How did you find the heater/gauge/stereo/fogs/etc etc wiring? I had to rebuild most of mine at the weekend!

So far it looks ok but I didn't pull that all out - everything seems to be working so far. I guess I'll check each bit as I put it back together and hope for the best

Lol. I picked up a proper early spoilerless hatch from a fellow Porsche 924 owner yesterday. This evening the old one was removed and the replacement fitted. Next step will be to clean up the trim and fully expose the chrome - loving it. Just what I was after. On Sunday whilst the sun made a brief appearance I began valetting the interior. The carpets were grubby with a nasty stain under the passenger seat where oil had been squirted by a PO to try free up the seized slider...let's see if Vanish will do as it says on the tin. Three days later and it's still damp so I bought a small blower heater from Wilkos to bring some summer into the cabin. Carpets do look much better tho!

More progress on a rare sunny winter's day. Cleaned off all the remaining black paint from the hatch to reveal the chrome. I used various products but at the end of the day Nitromors proved to be the most effective but still required numerous toppings. Then I polished it with Autosol and I think it's the best it's going to be. Which included removing the old GB decal with a hair dryer and sharp flat back side of blade. The interior carpets are now nicely cleaned and well dried with my cheap wilko heater: The front seats got their treatment at the spa and cleaned up well enough - I must get the edges re-stiched though: Following that I reinstalled the front seats after freeing up the seized slider mechs. Many days of applying liberal amounts of WD40 and tapping with the hammer, then twisting the handles eventually got them working beautifully again. Last task was to fit the new side mirror seals received from Porsche for the princely sum of £5 and change! It never ceases to amaze me that Porsche still stock this kind of item - and I'm very glad that they do! The PO had cut the wires to the mirrors so I added some spade connectors to sort the wiring at a later date... All in all a good day.

thanks funkula. On a lighter note Goldie Hawn is 31 years old now! Free road tax would be a great birthday present!

Cheers JP. After collecting the replacement dashboard, Goldie Hawn is finally nearing being put back on the road! Old cracked dash compared to the newly fitted one: The difference is night & day. If you've ever done a dash swap you'll have discovered that reconnecting the speedo is a bit of a PIA...in the end this is how I managed it - with the new binnacle slightly extracted: All in all I'm very happy with the results - the dash has only very minor cracks that are barely noticeable. Can anyone spot the first subtle interior mod?

A crack free 924 dash is a rare thing indeed. This looks fantastic it has to be said. Clean carpets really do make quite a difference to living in the car eh?
I do love the touches of the early 924s which you seem to be using. All you need now (IMO is the early porsche924 rear badge (not that common though I admit!).

Ooo - I'd love to say yes but they were standard. The badge on the steering wheel is indeed an addition but I bought the wheel like that. Its actually to do with carpet - I removed the carpet from the sides of the centre console and from around the gear gaiter so it's bare naked chocolate brown plastic - much tidier IMO Rare sunny day pics out from under the carport finally: Soon to be taxed.

I thought you had moved the rev counter round so the red bit was at the top.

Lol I thought that's how they were standard - kinda makes sense to me that the red would be at the top - is that not standard then?

Hey oh!
Thanks guys for the comments.
Yesterday I taxed Goldie Hawn and after faffing with getting the passenger wing mirror bolted down I eventually hit the road very late in the afternoon for a quick 5 minute shake down. Up until fours miles out I was starting to relax and enjoy the car - quite different to my 944 from what I recall. Ride quality with the Spax suspension and new springs was fab!
Then... She passed out.
I found a light open stretch of road and the stuttering started, I noticed the voltmeter was zero'd and thought I'd better u-turn and head home. To late she cried and stalled - in the middle of a small side road intersection. I was not amused - 3 hours later the AA finally had me home after the first recovery chap didn't think he'd get the 924 on his truck and left... Idiot. I'd brought this car home on a loader like his when I bought this car but he was having none of it.
Diagnoses suspected alternator failure...
Thankfully Two 924 club members came to the rescue with the offer of a working alternator. I popped down to Ashford this morning and removed the alternator from Stefans now to be broken 924 and headed home.
After a little tinkering the replacement was on and belt suitably tensioned with the help of the missus.
I went to grab the multimeter and discovered it had passed away. Off to machine mart...back again.
Then jumpered Goldie to The Hoff (my 944) as the battery in the 944 is in das boot - it was worth the shot and thankfully Goldie was all fired up!
Separated the two porkers and then checked Goldie's battery with the newly acquired multimeter - 13.9V FTW!
Thank you to Snaggletooth & Graveavenger from Porsche924 for rescuing my weekend!
I let Goldie run for twenty minutes, rad fan came on, dash lights all worked - no issue. Checked voltage again and it was still strong! Yeah baby.
Under the dash I found a blown fuse in number 7 - I think it was the electric windows as I now have a lazily working drivers window. Still no passenger window tho so I'm going to strip out the mechs this week and refurb them.
I also fitted a new sunroof clip too. Result.
Only other issue is no front or drivers side indicators...I borrowed a bulb from the left side indicator and still nada. Goldie wont flash up front. Any ideas guys?
Got to fix that before 924 Ace Cafe meet next weekend.
