A rare Citroen GS Special with two owners and 28,778 miles in condition three.
EQUIPMENT
Exterior stainless steel trim around the doors, chrome bumpers, exterior door mirrors, self-levelling hydro-pneumatic suspension, anti-burst door locks, collapsible steering column, quartz halogen headlamps, folding rear bench seat, non-reflective dashboard, electronic tachometer, electric clock, rheostat panel lighting, lockable glovebox, pockets in front doors, hot and cold air blowers, heated rear window, inertia reel seat-belts, reclining front seats, cigar lighter, armrests on all four doors, single-spoke padded steering wheel, dash mounted handbrake, rear window wiper/washer.
EXTERIOR
A truly unique vehicle finished in Blanc Meije II, (colour code AC088), which has an impressive shine with a uniform gloss. All the chrome bumpers and trim are in excellent condition. Manufacturer warning stickers still remain in place and the front grille muff for the cold season is still present. The supplying dealer number plate is still attached to the rear. Close inspection will reveal many little marks and blebs on the factory original panels. The outer edges of the boot, door tips and lower front valence being the worst areas. The vehicle is far from being an embarrassment and generates tremendous interest wherever it goes. It is a fantastic, original survivor, but perfectionists wanting to exhibit the car will be irritated by the natural aging signs. Useable, fun and very rare.
INTERIOR
An immensely comfortable interior with many quirky features including the dash mounted handbrake, famous Citroen padded one-spoke steering wheel and manual ride height control located between the front seats. Perfect tight headlining extending to the boot area is un-damaged. The brown Jersey cloth interior is very clean but the material has worn through on the top of the rear seat. The rubber floor covering wear free and the door cards and boot area are all wonderful. The galaxy of warning lights all function perfectly as do the control knobs, switches and levers. The driver’s window needs guidance to close. The period radio cassette functions correctly. A pleasant exact environment.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
On the road this GS moves smoothly and effortlessly with the light alloy G12 horizontally opposed flat-four 1129cc air-cooled engine pulling strongly and quietly. With 56.5bhp and 58.6ft/lb of torque progress is surprising brisk thanks to the light weight aerodynamic body. There is a minor exhaust blow but a genuine replacement part is included. Excellent fuel economy can be expected and is quoted at 44.1mpg at a constant 56mph. The four synchronized-speed manual gearbox is light and a joy to use.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Correct and very clean steel wheels with chrome hub-caps are shod in Michelin XZX 145/15 tyres all round with the fronts being new. The dual circuit four wheel disc braking system pulls the car up quickly and safely in a straight line. Caution needs to be allowed for first time Citroen GS drivers as the brakes are very responsive!
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Citroen Main Agents, Storeton in Merseyside on the 21st May 1979, this vehicle has only ever had two custodians from new. Mrs Croxon followed by her sibling in 1997, making this a very traceable example. Covered an incredibly low 28,778 miles from new with a collection of old MOT certificates and some service stamps this presents a unique offering for the next owner.
All handbooks including the Owner’s Manual, Dealer Directory and Maintenance Guide are included in the blue A5 Citroen wallet. A delightful 1979 accessory brochure is also included. Two sets of keys exist which correctly operate all locks.
This vehicle will appeal to a true Citroen enthusiast wanting a low mileage, low owner example or a modern classic car fan wanting to enjoy some Gallic charm!
MOT October 2014, Approved Used Car Checkand HPI Clear.
