Original 1988 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 For Sale.
This may be an overly lengthy ad so if you're in a hurry then there's a Quick Summary at the bottom of the ad along with loads of pics.
I've decided to sell my recently aquired GTi, having taken it as a trade for my 02 Volvo C70 T5, I really miss driving a big old barge!
This is of course a non cat and non power steering model with a factory vacuum seal sunroof.
The car has an MOT until September 2014 and has tax until the end of March 2014 also.
The current mileage is about 129,000.
One thing to note is that you do get noticed in one of these! The first week I had it I had 4 different people approach me to talk about the car, either: "I used to have one of them, it's nice to see a good one again" or "That's really clean for an old car mate".
The History.
The last owner completed all the work below before I purchased the car
July 2012 - 123k - Cambelt and waterpump done at a garage. Alternator and battery at the same time.
October 2012 - Brand new standard exhaust system and all mounts with three year guarantee.
March 2013 - All three engine mounts replaced,
May 2013 - New coil and leads and distributor cap and rotor arm,
June 2013 - Replacement rear beam suspension so the car now has rear discs as the drums were shocking, plus mounts, handbrake cables, brake pipes etc.
June 2013 - Complete half leather interior,
June 2013 - Fuel filter,
June 2013 - Four new Toyo Proxes T1R tyres fitted at about 126k.
July 2013 - Oil and filter changed,
July 2013 - Air Flow Meter.
August 2013 - Various sensors, air temperature etc all relating to fuel injection system.
August 2013 - Replaced both steering column switches.
August 2013 - Replaced air filter set up with K&N induction kit. Original system still present and supplied with the car.
September 2013 - Replaced dampers all round with Blistein Gravel spec shocks which are both firm for the road yet comfortable over the bumps too. New top mounts were of course fitted too and some standard springs fitted so the car sits at a standard ride height too.
The last owner took the car on a 1500 mile round trip to LeMans 2013 and was supposedly fault free so that really says something for it's reliability!
The car doesn't have much paperwork but it does have all its original booklets including the service book which was filled in period! I do have some of the receipts to back up some of the below above.
In my time with the car I have had the 1.9 GTi wheels refurbished in Gloss Black and had the lips polished at a cost of £300, looks great against the white paintwork don't you think?
The Bodywork.
For a 25 year old car it doesn't look too bad as you can see from the pics. It polishes up a real treat and is always attracting attention, it looks great for its' age!
All of the trim has a nice dark appearance and is crack/damage free except for the corner of the front bumper (slight crack) and the rear tailgate panel has a small crack above the lock.
The bonnet has an area of laquer peel, apart from that the paintwork is fantastic!
No major dents, scratches, chips or guages anywhere. Just the normal used car marks around it but overall it's super!
The rear lower quarters, just in front of the rear wheels, have seen work in the past and look scruffy. The passenger one has previously been caught on a low wall or something and has had an attempted repair, not too bad but both sills would benefit from some attention and could be sorted fairly cheaply or DIY. Also, the panel behind the headlight has corrosion but it's not an MOT fail area.
On a whole it isn't that bad at all and if those areas by the rear wheels were tidied it'd look stunning!
The Interior.
It's all here.
The right gear knob, steering wheel etc. The headlining is black.
As mentioned above, the car has had a half leather interior fitted recently which is nice but does suffer from the typical wear and stitching coming apart on the driver's seat but no holes!
There are no holes cut out in any trim for naff speakers or whatever but the boot is set up ready to receive 'a sound system' install if that's your sort of thing, all the wiring etc. Sound proofing has been applied to the boot floor and under the rear seats and looks a mess to be honest but it's practical I guess and covered up by the carpets/seats.
The sunroof seals fine and doesn't leak even slightly.
The Drive.
The ride is nice enough yet there is zero body roll, it's rather impressive really.
With it's new and matching Toyo tyres all round it sticks like glue to the road.
Having had a replacement rear beam with a rear disc conversion it stops nicely too.
The car starts fine, a bit of cranking when it's very cold outside and hasn't been used for a while. Like a lot of 205s though it does have a curse word idle when cold but once warmed up it's fine. I imagine it just isn't set up quite right.
All the gauges read as they should. No overheating at all and gets up to temperature quickly.
Gear linkage is good, very positive with selecting a gear, ever 1st and reverse!
The dash rattles less than I imagined it would and is fairly quiet with it's new standard exhaust and good quality tyres.
The Electrics.
The car doesn't have a stereo in it currently so a blanking plate has been fitted but the wiring is all there including that for an amp, sub and additional speakers.
It had electric windows which were faulty so have been removed and some good keep fit windows have been installed which are very light and easy to wind.
The driving lights have some golden yellow tint applied, easily peeled off if no to your taste.
The central locking works fine and the car has 4 keys. 2 Originals and 2 Locksmith copies, all keys are the same for all locks which is nice.
At the last MOT the windscreen washers weren't working correctly so it's been wired to a button on the centre console. There's also a random flip switch there too which doesn't do anything, just there for lols!
The fan, both the cooling fan and the interior one work perfectly.
Modifications/Extras.
The car has been fitted with a K&N induction kit although the original system is included too if you want it.
The car has a rare sunroof deflector, some original rubber floor mats and some original front mudguards too.
As already mentioned the car has a replacement rear beam with disc brakes so rides nicely.
Suspension wise, the car is at it's standard ride height and has Bilstein shocks all round. They are gravel spec apparently which really do both ride well over the bumps yet stay flat through the corners....This car is superb to drive!
The car currently is fitted with a red upper strut brace, easily removed and sold of course .
Summary.
- 129,000 miles only,
- Mot until 6th September 2014,
- Tax until end of March,
- Runs and drives well,
- Loads of recent work including timing belt, tyres etc.

If you have any questions then please ask away, I'm more than happy to produce any additional photos etc for you.
