Great car, only problem with this type of thing is, then what you do with it. If you use it, it will lose a fortune.

Not worth the price it's going for either. It's a nice car and a lovely example but way over priced.

It is an absolutely stunning example of one of my favourite cars... In fact, I had one exactly the same as this about 10 years ago although it wasn't in the same condition of course!!!
The chap who is selling this always seems to find great examples of cars and they always make tongues hang out and eyes bulge!!!!!!
Why can lower spec' models always (well, not always of course!) be found though, why on Earth can't someone uncover a mint 3-litre S...?!?!?!

My 1.6 LS had done 10,000 miles and had been in storage from around 18 months when I bought it after it had just passed it's first MOT at 10 years old. It came with bills for £1500 from Ford main agent to recommission. Seller was an old chap who bought it when he retired then health stopped him driving. Lots of people wanted to buy it but he wouldn't sell. I virtually had an interview before he agreed to let me have it. I paid £450 !
I kept it immaculate (I'd got a Polo for everyday and 3.4 XJ6 for "best") but it still started to deteriorate and crumble before me. In the end neither my wife not I could drive it (me - needed auto due to motorbike accident & wife needed PAS after her right hand became detached in another accident) so it sat parked up until I decided to tow to scrap yard. Yes it could have been saved but at the time you could still get a decent Capri for less than it would have cost so whilst I now regret scrapping it was the right thing to do at the time.

Not worth the price it's going for either. It's a nice car and a lovely example but way over priced. Your probably right, but it has 19 bids and nearly 3 days to go, so its floating someones boat at that money  |

thats nice, would look great in a remake of the professionals.
it does annoy me that its listed as a 6000 mile car in the heading but later its 6990 miles, which is much nearer to 7000 miles. don't think it will make a difference to the winning bidder though

been to see cars from the seller......i wont comment, and the capri has been on 3 times now
bid up by his trade mates a recent mk5 cortina bought for £1000 via classic car weekly, then cleaned up and then bid up on ebay to 5k, ive been informed the said car is still with him

A lot of it is in the preparation though- there's lots of people who would spot it for sale in their local rag by said old dear, then stick it straight on eBay with the title "LER MILUGE CAPRI GOLD BARN FIND BARGIN!!!" and a similarly helpful description. His descriptions might be a bit long and winding (and tend to make mountains out of molehills of vehicular history) but that's more appealing to the serious buyer than too little. And he cleans the cars, tidies a few bits up here & there and takes some nice photos- and generally speaking the cars look genuinely very good too.
Several of the cars he's sold have come through car & classic, I know he had a Marina up earlier in the year that was from there.
For the record I actually have one of his cars, another Marina that was bought from him last year and then sold on again this year, first to someone else and then to me. I have the history confirming the miles (every MOT from new, service receipts from the supplying dealer etc) and the car is in exceptional condition. I paid considerably less than the eBay price from a year ago, mainly because the car has since lost it's engine and gearbox (1300 A series & auto box) to a Morris Minor, but having gone over the car I don't reckon what it sold for last year was too wide of the mark.

Looking at the bid history a couple of bidders have 100% bidding activity with this seller :/ Call me old fashioned, but I like to be able to 100% trust sellers of products which are aimed at the very top end of the market. His advert is riddled with typos and grammatical errors and for me personally, doesnt inspire confidence. Added to that, questionable bidding techniques and a seemingly massively inflated price, I'd be more concerned that this seller is a distant relative of DelBoy. I can only assume that his reason for stating 'it's worth around 20 grand' is so that it looks more 'acceptable' when the auction price continues to head for that figure (no doubt fuelled by his mates Dave and Phil, with their bid happy left mouse buttons). |

Why pay so much for a 1.6 capri when for less you can get a better and faster 2.8i or 3.0s or even a 2.0s?
