Big and slow new toy! 87 Bedford CF2 ambulance conversion.

Well, I just bought this, an 87 Bedford CF2 with a 2.3 TD Frontera engine. Used to be an ambulance but was converted four years ago. Feels good not to follow the crowds and have a VW.

Nice & good engine swap, I used to work on these back in the eighties.
I worked for the NCB (or was it attended, as they used to say) & we had loads of 'em with Opel diesels in, Christ they were slow, should be a bit better with that Frontera in

Plans wise, I don't know. The previous owner, who was a mechanic and lpg installer, kitted it all out. It has an interior out of an old caravan, 3 hob cooker, grill and oven!!!! He also installed an electric flushing loo, sink and shower in the back, which I may remove as I like the idea of using the back doors (that's one for all you innuendo lovers out there).He also installed an lpg tank so I don't have to fanny around with bottles, I just fill up at a station.

And I cant describe my joy at opening up the back doors to see the original ambulance number and colours (it was a St Johns ambulance).

there was a CF car transporter on ebay a month or so ago for buttons, n/a perkins engine though eek. i was thinking of doing a asda value version of frankenhealy

So here's some photos, inside of the back doors, blocked off for now but cool original colours

A couple shots of the inside from both directions. As I said before, the interior is from a caravan of some description.

Shot of the dash. I like the steering wheel. looks like a cheapo Motalita or something. And apparently that is a real set of Recaros, very comfy too I might add.

And the bathroom at the back. Although nicely done, personally, I wouldn't have bothered with this myself and had a massive bed with that extra two feet of space, I think it might be too much hassle to try and shift the entire interior back by a couple of feet !

I like that, ages since I've seen a CF ambulance, forgot how smart they look.

Enjoy the camper conversion, my Iveco was a minibus before I had it converted, done the same as yours, using an old caravan as an interior donor, got an inboard LPG tank too, so much easier to use.

Hi Mexicansteve, indeed a different approach to the VW scene but a westi is also nice, the steeringwheel fitted to your Bedford is from a Ford Cortina Mk2 1600E I have one that is in my Transit Mk1
