Fitting a cut off switch for security

I'd like to fit a cut off switch or something similar to my Escort to immobilise it as its as basic as they come. Usually use a steering lock.

I don't know much about car wiring, any advice on fitting one somewhere?

Also any other security devices you guys use are most welcome.

What i allways do is fit 2 30 amp H/D switches (the metal ones) in the feed to the coil, one easy to get at either just under the dash or in the ashtray, tape holder ect, i use that day to day and the 2nd i leave on but well tucked up under the dash and hard to get at/find and only turn it off i'm i'm gone for a while or don't like the area ect.
Also i grab any decent alarm sensor i find in the scrappys and wire it to the OFF terminal on the ign switch so when you turn the ign off the sensor comes on and clicks and flashes like it would if you had armed an alarm, obv an actuall alarm is better but i've not had a car nicked since i started using the 2 switches system, even though i have had 4 atempted thefts but at least i still have the vehicals to repair (the usuall, bend the door back in, fit a new ign lock and switch and repalce the steering cowling)

Assuming you have an electric fuel pump, it's only a couple of wires to fit hidden cut off switch as has been said. Got one hidden on my 924 (although I need to get round to wiring in relay so it cuts out in the event of a crash)

If you're not very good at electrics, you could always fit a steering wheel boss that allows you to remove the steering wheel. Like this...

This may seem OTT (I'm very protective of my cars) but I will also probably fit a (hidden) device on the brake pedal to lock the brakes fully on - a lot of thefts now include a trailer - good luck getting that, you b****ards

you can easily modify this to operate if an attempt is made to override alarm system/hotwire & also easy to prevent lifting with a Hiab.

I have to move one (a breaker/parts car) on private land after I'd sold the steering wheel off it but the picture I used came from

Edited to add car was a Holden saloon (Auto) so probably had power steering

A short distance on private land isn't quite the same as driving down the road with it, now is it? I see where you are comming from, but I think if a thief was going to steal a car with the steering wheel missing he wouldn't just happen to have a pair of mole grips in his pocket any more than a spare steering wheel. And if he was that much of a accomplished classic car thief, I would think a ignition cut out switch wouldn't hold him up for very long...if at all.

With reference to the drug addict who was caught driving with a pair of mole grips... I can see just why he was quickly arrested.

Thanks for all the advice. i think i'll see about some of the cut off switches. Just need to figure out what wire to put them on (havnt looked yet but will). I don't think I'll go down the no steering wheel root just yet lol.
