I think people expect too much from top gear. Its supposed to be entertainment for all the family on a Sunday evening, the premise just happens to be cars.
I find it very amusing, I was laughing a lot at the Nova sliding out of the supermarket on its side.
Looking forward to the "Christmas" special over the next couple of weeks.

I understand the argument that the programme is now supposed to be light entertainment rather than a car programme, but who in all honesty finds things like their cycling safety skit amusing? It's at best puerile, at worst embarrassing. I just kinda feel when we live in a world that's included people such as Bill Hicks or Charlie Brooker or Armando Iannucco, who can take cutting satire to the level of pure art, they should maybe leave it to those who can do it properly... it just becomes abject buffoonery and is only ever going to seem pathetic. Try as I might, I can never wash away how embarrassing it was watching things like that India "special" they did. I still cringe at the very thought. I think like many people, no matter how often the positivity Police shout them down, I have to grit my teeth and hold on through all the dross... ...because then they go and do things like feature that bloody Porsche, and that's just all ends up amazing in any context Breathtaking thing, and even Hammond's eminently punchable grin can't spoil something like that. I saw an early model at the Festival of Speed last year, but they've gone and made it even more awesome with things like completely LED headlights and such. Although the exhaust still does look rather like a cross owl. Hopefully they've toned down the seats a bit, too, lol ...and just by way of contrast, there's an excellent film of Chris Harris testing the McLaren P1 on YouTube, without needing to resort to any Clarksonisms

Different people like different things. A lot of Top Gear viewers don't want a light entertainment show to have the acerbic grit of Black Mirror. Live and let live, I reckon.

Sorry but this made me laugh, don't care if it is immature.

To say that testing a £45k 'hot hatch' is pointless is a rather irrelevant statement when they then go on to 'test' a £600+k 'hybrid' I think it's safe to say that more people will buy the Benz than the Porsche!
I actually found the cycling 'sketch' most amusing. Probably because a lot of what they were saying is true (kind of)
It's been said before, and no doubt will be said again, it's nothing more than automotive based light entertainment for all the family. My kids (12 & 10) both love it. I thing that says it all!

I think if they did test the Merc they would have had to test Golf R (Which starts at £29k) which would have probably wiped the floor with the other 2. I know of a Mk6 Golf R thats a bit tweaked and putting out these figures: It's not had the big turbo fitted yet....

I actually found the cycling VT offensive and certainly not amusing.
I didn't see the Porsche VT, I had switched off by then.
Another reason why I am pleased I don't have a television.

I don't have a television. There's a good chance that you're not their core target demographic, then.

What did you switch off if you don't have a television...?! To be fair, I will always defend top Gear as it's a bit of a chortle... Having said that, the whole cycling advert thing was a tad on the offensive side if you're very, VERY easily offended but more than that it was exactly the same as what they did with the VW Scirocco diesel advert thing a couple of series' ago...!!! That does just go to show how tired the format is becoming... On the other hand the editing of the main features, allied with the stunning effects, is so damn slick you could almost forgive the show anything...!!!!!!!!!

I'm a keen cyclist and I didn't find the cycling bit offensive in the slightest. On the contrary, I thought it was somewhat funny.
Overall, I cant see why people need to make a point of how they actively avoided watching it as its not like it adds anything constructive to a thread talking about Top Gear.

...and just by way of contrast, there's an excellent film of Chris Harris testing the McLaren P1 on YouTube, without needing to resort to any Clarksonisms That's funny that. A mate sent me this video the other day as a must-see; I studied motorsport technology at university, I'm a subscriber to Racecar Engineering magazine, basically I am very much into the technical side of motorsport and cars like this. But I found this video the most boring video I've watched in quite some time. I watched the first five minutes, and then skipped through till it got to the track bit at the end. I'd take Clarkson's film of it any day, which is surprising because on the whole I think he's a shouting frizzy-headed curse word.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I think its great that we have a motoring programme that requires one to remove their brain before watching. I removed mine last night and found it genuinly funny in places, though i do wonder how they get away with some things.
I just find it a shame that this is the best the BBC can do for a motoring programme. Wont stop me watching it tho.

I thought the cycling skit was rather Monty python ish, the bit when Clarkson said, 'Christ on a bike' as Christ on his bike went past killed me

That's quite hilarious to read that people were actually offended by the cycling sketch! I found it quite amusing... (and true!). As I do with most of Top Gear. Dreary adenoid filled, amateurishly filmed over long internet videos like that one above though I really cannot bear to sit all the way through. Dull beyond belief.
