And thats pretty much where I am at now. I want to paint the car NOW but cannot buy the paint as the paint code does not come up in Australian computers (Sapphire Blue 218) I did try various paint codes which all relate to the same colour but non work Then I was put onto a company called PPG, who I rang and low and behold they had the code, I raced straight down there to buy it and almost hit the floor when he told me the price....$1179 for 4 litres of paint and 4 litres of clear! Needless to say I made a hasty retreat! The search continues.............if anyone has the 'ingredients / measurements' to make the paint that would be fantastic!

Heh. I have access to two old PPG systems that I can pull paint from. /lucky I'm dropping a reminder in my phone to check my systems at work to see if it comes up with that code. If you want to post the other codes, I can check those too.

Ok I had a look on the paint system that we have (Supercheap Auto) which is a Colorspec system and those codes come up with a few different options. 102388 102387 102386 55812 28206 28207 28208 28069 28070 144425 144428 144431 Those are the formulas it gives for 218 25l 3bb pj they're all shades of non/Metallic Sapphire Blue. Unfortunately we don't do samples as it takes an entire can worth to get the mix right for the colour. Oh and it's an acrylic system. But, there are things! Hope that helps.

Thanks varelse In on my way to a guy now who said he has the codes to make the paint so hopefully it all works out ok. I did go into Supercheap previously but they only sell 2L tins? So didn't pursue.

No the Nomix system is 500ml, 1L and 4L I thought? Fair call, though. I think it's a terrible system. Let's trust a 15 year old who couldn't care less about your car to mix paint for it! I personally don't mix it if I can help it as I'm atrocious at getting the percentages right haha.

In my local Supercheap they have a sign on the wall saying 500ml, 1Litre and 2L (2L $178) But yes the 15 year old factor mixing paint is not confidence inspiring Anyway the bloke I went to did end up helping me, he had an old European database. Not wasting anytime I painted the Boot, Cabin, and engine bay as soon as I got home! Then today laid some GT-Matt sound deadening

How thick is that stuff, and how much? I'm going to want something similar I think. Sound mat through work seems a bit pricey but haven't checked elsewhere to compare.

From memory $90 US from eBay
Hardly made a dent in the roll it will easily cover all floor area including boot (49sqm?)
This stuff would be about 2-3mm thick, bitumised looks to be good quality

Once paint starts going on you know your getting places, Be on the road in a day or two eh? fair play its coming along, For what its worth which is not a lot, I remember a Chevette getting work done and the colour was under Buick in the system, not odd seen as they were owned by GM,

Not a lot to report just a bit more painting Straight off the gun here Guard did not come out quite as well but will cut and buff ok Few imperfections under the bonnet....but compared to what it was I don't care! Had a quick go at rubbing back and buffing one of the guards today, but my only wool pad flew off the buffing machine and into my curse word neighbors back yard...so I wont see that again...and had to finish the guard off by hand, still not to bad Also tidied up my now strengthened suspension arms. I went with an alloy look as I like it against the black underside of the car, the gearbox and engine will be the same colour......the engine crossmember will be chassis black

Brakes arrived today. A complete Big brake kit for the Holden Gemini, adapted from a Holden VT Commodore, 297mm vented and grooved discs up from solid 250mm's Caliper comparison, Manta, Volvo (Girlock) and Commodore Plenty of clearance to my 15" rims The only part of the kit that I cannot use is the Large Gemini bearing that fits all the way down the shaft, the internal diamter is not large enough, the mantra shaft is a few mm bigger, for now I have the old Manta one on there. Looks like I've exceeded my bandwidth until the end of the month with photobucket, maybe try the direct link s1227.photobucket.com/user/gtrea/library/Opel%20Manta?sort=3&page=1

One of my many past jobs threw in an Opel Ascona Berlina as a company car and I should have been bl00dy grateful but all I lusted after was the Manta. This thread brings back so many memories Bookmarked.

I would have actually prefered an Opel Ascona SR Berlina like my dads to the Manta Frankenhealey! But I still love this Manta, heres another progress report Slowly slowly catch the monkey Cannot progress to much until I get my front cross member back from a mate whom is doing some welding on it Painted the whole car, bar the doors as I ran out of paint. Bonnet did not work out to well few small reactions and a few small dents I never noticed previous, will sort out later. Fitted up the fuel system including a Walbro GSL392 pump. Got my engine crossmember back after a mate had cut down the Bump stop cones for me. So I can now start reassembling the whole car. Crossmember in and Brakes fitted I had to space the caliper out using an M12 washer, otherwise all went smoothly........thought id fly thru this but it still took me all day! Finally the cars a roller again, so I push her out for a bit of a wash. Tomorrow I will get it rubbed back and buffed, then I think I best clean the garage Starting to put the rear half of the car back together
